Changing color of links in VSD,...

I want to change the color of my links and visited links in VSD.

What I did but didn't REALLY work, was open the index.html file into the coffeecup html editor and changed the active and visited links, save it, and voiia, it worked!

BUT...

When I opened up my vsd file, the changes weren't made in it and I'm afraid it will affect all other pages that I had.

How can I change the active and visited links FROM within VSD?

Hiya David,

You are not able to edit your site pages outside of VSD and still be able to edit those pages with the new changes in them. VSD only loads the file that it creates which is the .vnu file and all the information for your site is in that file. Any changes you make go into that file and when it's done and you upload it extracts the files you need on your site so you are never editing the actual site files themselves. You are unable to input the changes from outside of VSD such as in an HTML Editor, back into VSD.

There are however options within VSD to change all these settings if you check out all the setups in VSD I'm sure you'll see a lot of things that can be altered in it.

The setting you are looking for is in .. yep you guessed it... Settings at the top of the window and then choose Standard Settings for New Pages... sometimes you just need to look around and see where all the settings are for things before you jump in and start creating hehe. There's a pulldown menu on that little window that opens for the page settings that you choose which page you want to edit the settings for and then change them. This allows you to setup different colors for different pages etc.

Hope that helps, and I would suggest exploring the program a bit and seeing just how much can really be done with it. Have fun and Good Luck :)

David,

VSD saves all changes in an internal database, and if you make a change to the output (html pages), you are not changing that database, and any changes you made to the html will be lost when you make and save a change with VSD.

When you first start your site, there is a window that has website properties, At the bottom of that box is a place to change your link colors.

If you open your VSD site, click on settings, and select the top item it will open the dialog box for standard new site settings, and will have a location to change link colors and apply them to your site.

Wolverana and Bill, thanks for your replies. I checked it and was able to fix it! That helped a lot! I wasn't even looking in the settings but under every other option instead! Ha ha, but I'm still learning this thing. I do like it a lot so far.

Thanks again for the help!

I have had very few issues that I could not resolve with this help forum. I had this same question and found the answer quickly. Thanks for maintaining this help forum so well.

This is off topic, but I seem to have some issues with the way pages display on different browsers. This is not a huge deal to me at this time, but just curious if this is normal. If you would like to check what I am saying you can find my site at http://mikestarkphotography.com/free.html if you look at the bottom, the spacing is much different on IE and FF, on FF it displays properly (as designed) If I leave it as designed on IE it overlaps text boxes.

Wierd, but not a huge deal on my end.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum :)
Just had a look in IE9 and FF4 - looks pretty much the same, no overlaps. Are you using the latest VSD7 build? (7.22) Here's a link to some info about text in VSD:

When IE9 and FF4 were released, I think quite a few of us had some text issues. For me, sites that were fine in IE8 and IE7 had messed up text in IE9. VSD7 (forget which build) took care of it, but I've noticed that as they keep tweaking the code, trying to get it just right for all browsers), I've had to make a few adjustments here and there. Going to a smaller font size seems to keep IE happy.

Here's something you might find useful - it's a nice way to display a photo gallery:

Is there any way to change things in this Setting pages (like link color or background color) WITHOUT it changing page size to some standard size for all pages?

I end up having to resize every page when all I want to change is background color.

Did you click on apply to all pages? I think you'll have to do it one at a time.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
