Hiya Lydia,
Why are you using an FTP program to upload your site if you're using VSD? VSD had an upload utility setup within it and you should use that if at all possible so that all files are uploaded exactly how they need to be for the site. If you're having issues with your ID and PW with your server, we'd need to know what hosting server you are using for your website so we can better help you to know how to enter the information correctly. Make sure your ID and PW are exactly typed how you set it up, most of them are case sensative.

User name and password are correct, I can upload html files from VSD using cute ftp but it doesn't look right. what files I should upload as Coffie Cup ftp doesn't recognize password or user name what is ridiculous.
I am using cheap-domainregistration.com, server is secureserver.net

Sure Lydia, it actually works a lot like Coffeecup FTP. Can you make a connection using Cute FTP? I would try to see if it does make a connection, although I am sure coffeecup FTP would also work as well. There may be a setting we need to set for the server that may differ from the default. Have you tried setting up the VSD ftp gatway part of the program where it will upload automatically? Once you make a connection with any of these except VSD, you will be given a directory tree usually on the right side of the split screen and you go to the directory that you will eventually move the files to. On the left side of the split screen you will direct yourself to the directory that contains the files you wish to transfer. Simply then drag the files and directories you wish to transfer from the left side to the right side of the screen and it will upload them for you.

You truly should be uploading this within VSD itself though. If you're having difficulties trying to upload from within Visual Site Designer, you should put a support ticket in so they can help you get it sorted out. Using VSD to upload is your best way to be sure you're not missing any detrimental files that are needed for the site as well as giving you the backup needed too.
Definitely put in a support ticket though so they can help you get that working as it should in VSD rather than using an external upload system if at all possible.

And then there are those "detrimental files" that you may actually want to miss...

Anyone mentioned that in vsd there is an ADD FILE tab below EDIT
I missed it for ages, just put everything you want in your website into a separate folder (on desctop) my website
Then select the contents of that folder and add them all using EDIT , ADD FILES in VSD
Then upload from inbuilt FTP in VSD and nothing will be missed, and its all in one place for future reference, editing and making backups etc.
