Can anyone suggest a solution?

I have VSD Version 7.0 Build 11. I’m running Windows Vista.

I’m a newbie, with a limited technical vocabulary – but I seem to get there in the end…

I’m trying to publish, but nothing’s happening. I’ve looked through old VSD forum posts.

I normally run Windows Defender, AVG and Spybot. I’ve removed AVG and Spybot completely, and closed Windows Defender, and removed the firewall. Still no joy.

After a couple of minutes, the publishing process comes to a halt. An error message appears saying, “The file ‘C:\Users\Toshiba\Administration\Website & Email\CoffeeCup\matrixLloyd™_website.xml’ was not found. Do you want to continue uploading your site anyway?” [Yes] [No].

If I chose Yes, then it repeats the message in respect of endless files which the website is composed of. If I chose No – at any stage thereafter – a message comes up , then a further error message appears saying, “We encountered an error while attempting to upload your work to your server. Not wo worry: There are a few east steps you can take to clear up the issue. … Things to check… [etc]” There are three options. Check your firewalls: tried it. Passive mode: checked. Finally, it suggests checking “your information”. The server name looks okay (matrixlloyd.com) and username (ftp@matrixlloyd.com) and password are okay. I’m not sure if I have the right “Remote/Folder” (how would I find this..? I’ve put “/www” in for now). I’ve kept the “Port” at 21 (no idea what this does!), and when I press “Test Connection”, it says that everything is okay.

Any ideas where I’m going wrong?

Thanks!

Hey

We have actually been working on an update to Visual Site Designer that address many past issues. You can download the latest version(7.0 Build 24) from the My Products page on our website. Upon installing the new version to your computer, it is best to instantly open your website using the new version and click File > Save As to save the project to a new location. This will apply all version changes to your website! :D

Although this update to Visual Site Designer has made vast improvements to the markup and how the site will display in different browsers and operating systems, there are a few things you should take a look at.

Thanks - especially on a Sunday!

I downloaded the new version of VSD, opened the site and immediately saved it in a new location.

But the result is the same when I try to publish the site. Same error messages, and the site is unpublished...

What you are going to have to do then is this:

1. Locate each Flash object on your website, select it and then click the Object Toolbar icon.
2. On the Object Properties dialog click Remove Flash.
3. Go to the Edit Menu > Remove Files and clear out any of the files that you are seeing alerts for.
4. Re-add your Flash objects back to VSD.
5. Save and Publish.

Thanks.

Each page has a Firestarter (therefore Flash?!) object, and some have embedded MySpace videos, and there’s an embedded Google calendar, both embedded using HTML code.

When I click on the Firestarter HTML code box, then click on the square Object button, then press “Remove Flash” in the “Object Properties” dialogue box, a new error message appears, telling me that, “This object does not contain any Flash applications.”

Curiously, I made a new copy of my site, removed all the Firestarter animations etc, and the result was still the same.

The error messages which crop up when I try to publish the site are asking me to find each and every file, including jpg pictures…?! If I clearout all the objects I’m seeing alerts for, there won’t be a website left!

I would suggest at this point you open a support ticket and send us all your website files and we can take a look at what is going on.

Fixed it.

In VSD, Edit > Remove Files. Select all. Delete all. Then, Edit > Add Files, add all the .swf files.

I had to open up the FTP thing with a programme called Classic FTP, and remove all the files I could, before publishing the whole thing with VSD.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
