Hi all, I am new here.. I am starting up a law firm and am trying to create a website.. Right now, the website is created in the 740x600 dimensions and displays correctly.. However, if I try to increase it to 1024x768 it is COMPLETELY distorted.. It isn't even recognizeable.. Objects are in different places and pictures are moved.. What am I doing wrong.. My host is 1and1...
Please help...
Please help...
I haven't done the math but I suspect that changing from 740x600 to 1024x768 is not a matter of multiplying the size by a factor but also changing the shape as well.
Either way...increasing the size or increasing the size and changing the shape will result in poor image quality at best and a distorted page at less than best.
I would think you would need to start afresh with a blank slate at the new size.
You may be able to salvage bits and pieces of your old design to use again but simply changing the dimensions is unlikely to give a satisfactory result.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.
Thanks for your reply.. I did start from a blank slate.. I recreated my entire website in the new dimensions and it still came up extremely distorted.. Normally, I would just try and pay to have it done because I am getting extremely frustrated.. However, I am starting a not for profit law firm and, well, don't have the money to do so.. I wish I could figure this out. 740x600 shows up just fine, but when I do a website in 1024x 768 it is really bad.. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong..
I like the coffee cup software, but it just isn't working for me.

Do you have it uploaded so we can have a look?

Yes, the distorted view is uploaded.. It is http://www.silegalservices.com..
Okay...it looks like you have simply changed the image dimensions to fit your page width, perhaps by dragging the corners?
That will distort your images. You will need to make new images of the correct size to fit your new page width.
Also the image Southern Illinois Legal Services.jpg is missing from the Files folder

Does that mean I have to just make the image of the scales of justice smaller and just use it.. Not sure I understand.. Also, the only image I am using is the Southern Illinois Legal Services.jpg and it shows when it is displayed.. I thought I saved it.. wow.. this is getting difficult.. lol
For example:
on your new page IMG_1.jpg" alt="" width=1023 height=12
but the actual image has the dimensions of
Width 739
Height 89
So it has been stretched in width and squashed in height...its going to look distorted because it is.
You need to use images at their actual dimensions or in direct proportion. Generally if you try and make an image bigger by changing its proportions up it will be fuzzy but you can usually shrink it down proportionally without losing clarity as long as you keep all dimensions in proportion.
Its midnight here so off to bed...will check again in the morning.

You will need to change all the pictures to the correct dimensions. Either have them at the correct dimensions which will leave space around them on a wider screen or re-do the pictures completely so they are bigger to fit.
If it was me I would just start afresh and try and do something similar but not the same.
If you get totally frustrated I work with not-for-profit organisations:
