Burned by Visual Site Desiner - leads...

I have some critical dates to meet and tried Visual Site Designer but could not create directory on the Network Solutions site when I tried to upload, although the connect was fine and Direct FTP worked well.

Since I had to start from the beginning, with less visual tools, even though I purchased the Webmaster Super Pack, it would have been possible to meet my dates if I had access to HTML code and could bring it into HTLM Editor.

VSD must generate HTML code when it uploads to server, and it could have been downloaded into HTML Editor after that, but it never got to the server and all I had was the vsd file itself.

Suggestion - generate HTML code and keep it some place before the actual upload to the server.

Thanks,

Lee

When you create a site with VSD, it makes a folder called something.vnu_website ('something' being the name you gave your project). Inside that folder you will find all the pages as html files, and they can of course be opened in the HTML Editor.

Sounds great - I will not have access to the computer on which that resides until tonight.

Thanks,

VSD - error while uploading - cannot create catalog.
So, what is the catalog? Where is supposed to be? How come my website upload was working find every day for a month, and now this bizarre error? I can still FTP pages to my website, so there is no internet connectivity issue. What causes this, and how is it fixed?? I need to get my pages uploaded soon. Seems like the VSD is not actually saving all of my pages either, because the HTML for several new pages I created is not there at all.

I am using 5.81 version of VSD

I just got access to the computer with the *.vnu files and I am able to open the index.html file in html editor - wish I had known this Friday or Saturday - would have saved many hours of work and much better results would have been realized.

Thanks,

We send out e-mails and post in the forums when we have a new version. We also have and RSS feed as well. If you can monitor one of those mediums, you can keep up on the latest releases.

Scott

I have only used the current releases since I just purchased the Webmaster Super Pack and downloaded last week. Thanks for the info on how to keep up to date on your new releases.

Ann hopped in with the "cannot create catalog" error and Scott's trying to verify her version of VSD.

Glad you're in better shape now, Lee.
*Guess I spoke too soon now seeing your other thread w/ the catalog issue.

All,
I have resolved my upload problem. I read another string of posts on this "error - cannot create catalog", and they indicated that there may be a problem with one of my new pages. So, I deleted the page I had added just before the problem occurred, and whala- it worked. I had named the page with a special character in it (a question mark). So, when I rebuilt the page, I did not use any special characters, and I have not had the problem since.
Just for the record, my VSD is version 5.74 .
