Bullet List in VSD - Post ID 153734
I've been going crazy for two nights. I created a bullet list in VSD. There are five fairly short lines. The first four look perfect. The last line wraps so that
• Efficient
• Environmentally Friendly
• Economically Feasible
• Fully Automated
• Technologically Advanced
in VSD becomes
• Efficient
• Environmentally Friendly
• Economically Feasible
• Fully Automated
• Technologically
Advanced
in Firefox 4 (beta 12).
After hours of struggling, I checked it in IE 8 and discovered the list is correct there as well.
What's up with FF? How can I fix this issue in VSD where I don't have a lot of control over margins or padding or any of the other things I've been reading about.

Hi Catherine
Have you tried dragging the text box out to give it some more room (in case of browser margin/padding differences)?
Just a thought, but I'd avoid beta versions for now (IE9, FF4), let them get all the bugs worked out first
If you could post a link to the page, that might help us figure out what's going on with your list.

Yes, please post the link. Different browsers display text differently (and aside from that may have different settings selected by the users as well). Excellent idea from paintbrush, dragging out the text box is exactly what I would do also, in fact I actually do this by default now on my own sites because I have run into your same issue so many times.

Yes, I have tried dragging out the text box.
Avoiding beta...I'll shall uninstall FF4 and go back to FF3 tomorrow night.
This site is not published yet. How do I post a link? (I'm a newbie.)
Thanks paintbrush and Chad.

A new piece of information, no matter which line is longest, that's the one it wraps to a second line.
Did you paste the text from another source?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Catherine,
The text box implementation in VSD is one of the worst parts of this otherwise well working wysiwyg web editor. 1000's of forum posts are dedicated to this item alone. Text overflowing other objects, all kinds of strange things happening all the time. As long as Coffeecup doesn't work on another software solution to add text, these problems won't be resolved.....
But there is a workaround within VSD! You can convert your text into an image. This has some drawbacks, but the solution is better than it's negative aspects. How do you do this?
After you've made your textbox, change it to an image by ticking 'allow advanced text' in the object properties window (top menu, click 'object', check 'allow advanced text', note: this works only when your text box has a blue outline). This changes the text box into an image. But you're not done yet. You need to add some visual effect to this textbox to let VSD know it's really an image (when will this not logical, unneeded step finally be resolved?). After marking the box as a textbox, click 'effect' (top menu) and there add some effect, like 'shadow'. After ticking shadow, change all sliders to zero, no effect will be applied, but nevertheless VSD will change the textbox into an image.
The drawback is that search engines (google) can't find text anymore to index your site. But when you add your original text to the 'alternate text' option in the object window, you've solved this too.... There's no technical limit to the 'alternate text' option, so even if you have a very large text in the 'original' text window, this will work fine...
Success, John

Catherine, is FF4 the only browser it was messed up in, or does it happen in any other browsers?
If the site isn't published yet, you can't post a link, so it's kind of a guessing game for now. But if it's OK except for FF4, I'd leave it be and get the site up and running - there may be other FF4 bugs to deal with down the road...

Shouldn't have to uninstall FF4 beta...
I just checked my setup and I have both FF3 and FF4 beta available on my system. Just have to be careful not to switch the "primary" as I switch back and forth during playtime.
