background images load slowly - Post...
I am new to vsd and using a registered version of 6.0 build 6 of vsd on Vista. I am trying to use various images for backgrounds of my pages, but when I open my website (www.bluesic.com) they open very slowly - if at all. Especially on the "current schedule" page and "past gigs" page. I've not had this problem with other design software....
Anyone have any tutorials or other suggestions on using images for backgrounds? I've searched this forum and don't see any clues.
The other option that I was looking at is using a solid color on my page and then using a background image as the "background fill" beyond the border - but when I open settings/background fill, it only provides options to use a solid color or to extend the background beyond the border. Not sure how to acheive the look I am after, but essentially I want to use some of these psychadelic color backgrounds without making them so slow they just won't load. Help, anyone?

Hi Vallorie!
This thread has some instructions for getting an image or pattern into a background behind your page (so it fills the browser on each side of your page):

Using the background fill (solid color) on your pages and a repeating pattern for the browser background will help with speed things up. Your site and pages loaded quickly for me.

Your site loads up pretty quickly. I like the old "psychedeIic" look. I did find a few links that don't work, maybe the pages are not built yet?
Have you searched on the web for any images to use as backgrounds? I found many by searching different sites specifically for a "background image".
Another trick to try for faster loading might be to compress the image first. In Windows you can use Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Open the picture using this program, the select Edit Picture. On the menu there is a link to compress. I would save these as separate images and when you close out of Picture Manager choose the option Don't Save. This way if the image does not work, you still have the original to edit again.
Hope this helps some!

You are awesome...I don't have MS picture manager, but using your logic I acheived the same result with paintshop by using file/export/jpg optimizer and then using the wizard to compress until I got a small file that still looks acceptable, but loads much quicker. Nice tip on saving as a different name! Then I could always go back and compress a bit less or a bit more.
So it all looks great on my computer...hopefully isn't too pixelated on others.
Yes, I have a bunch of work still do to do, so some links won't work yet. But my slowest loading image on the Clean Slate page now appears to load very quickly. Thanks much! Now I can have my psychedelic look and eat my cake too! Thanks, Tim!
oh yeah, thanks for the search suggestion. There are a bunch of cool ones out there!
