Friday, I started having troubles with the background and the images not displaying. The odd thing was that all the links worked even though the images were not being shown. When I did a re-publish of a second site, the same thing happened there, when it had not happened there before.
And the index.html document is not loading where it needs to in order to publish correctly. I have to move the index.html file up to the next level, along side the main folder for the site in order to get the site to display once published.

Have you been re-organizing your files? Have your image files been moved?
Keith, are you using the publish option within VSD or an outside FTP program?
Have you double-checked your FTP settings? You shouldn't need to move anything after publishing.
Not all hosts require the same thing for the remote folder
Have you tried the re-synch option (in VSD under publish)?

It is in the "files" folder. That's where it get created by VSD and subsequently uploaded by Direct FTP.

I did begin re-organizing after the glitch to try and correct the problem. Image files have not been moved that I can tell. I am using Direct FTP.
Even on another site I just activated yesterday, www.trojanwarriors.org, when I used Diredt FTP to upload the site, I had to move the index.html document down a level to get anything to publish on the site.
I have not tried the re-synch option. I was unfamiliar with that.
Sorry to hear you're still not up and running
Keith, I think it might be time to try re-inserting your original image files. Also, before you do that, make sure you gather them all together in a folder with your other site files (do not put anything in the Files folder created by VSD). Once you have your image files organized, don't move them or VSD won't be able to find them.
Then, if everything looks good in the VSD preview, I'd try publishing from within VSD. You'll see all the files being uploaded and it will tell you if it can't find any of the files associated with your pages. If anything's missing and you're sure it's in the correct place; re-publish using the re-synch option.
If you use VSD's publishing options, it will always check for all the necessary files and will know to publish any changes you've made.
Have you checked with your host to see how to fill in the FTP info? – they're not all the same. For example, my host requires the Remote Folder field to be left blank rather than entering public_html.

Why are you using direct FTP? Set your publishing settings in VSD and hit the publish button.

Well, I have been previewing before publishing, and the preview looks fine.
And something else very important to note, in each of these 3 websites I'm having this problem with, the background is currently set for a gradient background. There's no image involved. For trojanwarriors.org, the background is supposed to be a gradient from black to dark red. It previews fine, but it publishes with not background at all.
This is the same scenario for each of the three sites. Two of these site are time critical. I have two other sites, I'm afraid to do any edits to right now, in fear of them developing these problems too.
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
