Are sites created by Visual Site...

Hello,

recently I've purchased Visual Site Designer and fell in love with it (although I like feeling smart when I do my coding ) . I was wondering about something: are sites designed by VSD as Google friendly as HTML sites? I saw some examples and all of them had low Alexa rank or even no rank at all, this depends on too many factors though. Because I don't know how exactly it works, I kind of need reassurance. Can you use it for sites where you rely on search engine traffic? Can anyone comment on this please?

Thanks,
Elena

First of all: Websites made with VSD ARE html sites. The only difference is that you don't code the html, the programme does it for you.
VSD has interface for inserting description and keyword metatags, and also alternate text for images. You should use those in accordance with the Google recommendations. You can also insert Website analytics code for Google, Yahoo and Webtrends.

What VSD does not have is automatically inserting <h1> tags for the page header. But that can be done manually using the html tool.

Something to be aware of, and not use too much, is the ability to make text into images. It is very tempting to use special effects for text, and in doing that making the text into an image, but that makes the text unreadable for the search bots. Such effects should only be used for navigation buttons, special headings etc, not for the main text.

The navigation made as described above will also be unreadable to search engines, therefore it is recommended also to have simple text links e.g. in the page footer, that the search bots can read.

If you bear these hints in mind, there is no reason why a VSD made site should not be Google friendly.

Others might have more hints for you, these are the ones that came to my mind...

Thank you very much for your input. This is really beneficial to know for everyone I believe.

It is great that these are HTML sites, so if we take care of the points you mentioned we will do great as long as we provide a lot of useful content :)

Thanks a lot,
Elena

every website i have produced with VSD has made first page with google, yahoo, bing based on location (ie pinner)

And i have good international ranking for item specific site (ie masonic signet rings)

I have remade three friends websites, previously done in frontpage, mine have outranked all three

Remember to add verification code to header, and register with google yahoo etc, mine are usually well ranked in about 4 weeks

I'm just getting started and I'm not finding - even though there are many - themes that I like. Can I take the Organic-vibrance--vsd-theme and change the main photo which is food?

Thanks

Yes you can! Just delete the image and insert your own. I actually started with that very theme, but changed it quite a bit: http://www.mightyowlband.org/

CC's working on Web Image Studio and making it theme-friendly so as to really be able to customize your themes, though I don't know how integrated that will become.

Would be great for users if Web Image Studio allowed easy modification of themes, because not everyone has the advantage of knowing Photoshop, Illustrator, et al. Would be even cooler if they integrated! Like you can just click on a theme to open it in WIS!
