Scott- deleted everything and reuploaded...no difference.

Eric - Changing background settings has made it look less awful.....although it does still look kinda weird being crammed into the middle of the screen with acres of space either side.

The spaces each side aren't visible when editing in VSD, so I'm not even quite sure how to spread everything back out again, if I can face doing that. Glad the site only has a few pages as yet, but if this happens next time I update my big website, I'm going to be cursing the day I updated vsd.........

But I'm getting tired and emotional now, it being nearly 9.00pm over here, and probably time for a break and a glass of wine..........

I would suggest then figuring out how to upload with VSD. Sounds like your problems all lie with manually uploading your site.

Scott i wonder if this is the old /public_html/ problem that i used to get stuck with

William try putting your server hosting url including .co.uk into ftp account settings ::

SERVER = yourdomainname.co.uk

User name = your host user name something like yourdo67 (shortening of domain name + some numbers)

Password = hosting password

Remote folder is something like public_html/ LEFT BLANK IF IN RUTE or public_html/websitename

See if that puts it in yourdomainname.co.uk where it belongs

Good News/Bad News !

Good News: I've got the site uploading straight out of vsd - which is nice and convenient and quicker than doing manually. Also The Google analytics appear to be working, which is going to be very interesting information..but couldn't get it to load with public_html in the remote foldername....which may explain (to more techy heads than mine).......

the bad news which is that it still appears on the web scrunched up into the middle with big gaps each side. I'm getting used to it but....

some hosting accounts do it that way and some dont. guess yours does not :)

Also try doing Ctrl f5 on all your pages, so its refreshed properly, most pages seem OK to me

Also compare where each line of text ends in editing mode to live site, if they are not the same try hitting return where you want each line of text to end, forcing the next word to start on the next line (Eric dont shout at me for that one please)

Your page width is only 990 which is OK, but if you want to give your content a little more breathing room increase your page width to 1100 or use a smaller font and smaller images.:) I think it looks pretty good. It doesn't appear to be scrunched up like somethings wrong.;)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

I think I'll leave it for the moment and see how I feel after a week or two. Although I am worried as to whether this will happen with my main site next time I update with the new vsd. (still not sure if it's updated vsd or adding analytics that's resulted in the sizing changes ?)

Have only been able to view site from my laptop/desktop....it might actually be better this way for people viewing it on smaller devices.........

Thanks again, will give you at least a few days peace while I'm falling over lots in the snow next week!

William the change in the text layout (if that is what it is) is due to the V7 upgade

I had tto edit all of my sites as a result when i updated.

CC changed the way any copy and pasted text went in , it all shifted about 10 pixls to the right and downwards some ,,unless it was a NEW PAGE copied from one already made, in which case it did not shift to the right.

This caused all sorts of issues impossible to explain here, BUT BENEFICIAL for all new build sites in V7 so it was a worthwhile change ultimately
