Glad to hear my suggestion helped! :D

I'm trying to avoid loading the staff with simple problems that should be easy to fix... so I always search first before opening a ticket. I was glad to find this thread, and thought I would try this real quick before going the way of the trouble ticket.

I've used the program extensively... have run into problems and solved them. Mostly... it's brilliant in its simplicity, ease of use, and functionality.

Like our friend that started the thread, I tried to upload some changes to one of my sites today only to run into a problem with it timing out.

I've successfully uploaded to this site with these settings hundreds of times tweaking things along the way.

Today, once it goes to the "making a connection" window, instead of everything flowing smoothly from one action to another the program seems to stop doing anything with a LONG delay and no little action windows visible. Then suddenly it comes back briefly like it's uploading, nothing happens and then it gives me an error message.

Firewall is down... even thought that has not been a problem before. I am going through a different network, which has never been a problem before either.

Any thoughts?

Hiya Jeremy,

Are you saying you have done this form upload to this same server before? I ask because I'm trying to decipher if maybe your server is just having connection issues which is how it sounds to me. What is the Error message that you are getting in the end?

It seemed to be timing out, which was different from the countless times I had uploaded before. None of the settings had changed anywhere so when I hit the one click upload that had worked flawlessly so many times before on the same site and same server, it was confusing.

A great lady, Fransesca I believe... helped me and it's working again. It was the Passive thing. I don't recall ever having to do that before, but what ever. I don't care. I love these programs and the incredible network of support, the community, and the great people.

Thanks again!

@ Robin... thanks for posting your problem.

@ Monica...thanks for the solution.

This saves me the headache of trying to explain it to folks...I can just send them to this thread. :D

Thanks for sharing Robin. I was getting very frustrated with this same problem. Switching to the passive mode did it for me.

It's the passive thing I think.

I never had to do that before, but once I checked it off, the problem stopped.

Switch to the passive mode worked for me too. However, it has to be set up and saved as one of your connections. On my computer I would go into the setup and check the "Passive" box and then click "Ok". I would then try to upload and got the error message again. It wasn't until I clicked "Passive" in my connection (David's FTP) and saved it as a connection that it seemed to fix the problem. I had assumed that just checking the Passive" box and clicking "Ok" would do. Wrong! Must be saved as a connection otherwise...aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :)

Now next project is trying to get the pages to display correctly when I upload. Think my browsers are still hiding a cache of them somewhere because even when I clear the cache I still get the old page rather than the edited page showing up. But that, is a new thread...
