Add/Remove files list in VSD 7

Okay, finally performed the necessary upgrade to VSD yesterday, which as I feared caused me a little confusion and some frustration. First, I like the added features and streamlining in v7, but...the install failed to locate the CC VSD uninstall so that it could overwrite version 6.06, and thus resulted in an extra version being installed in my Windows programs. I therefore resorted to manually uninstalling VSD (both of them) from my Windows programs, and then went forward with a clean install of VSD 7.19. This seemed to work.

Nonetheless, one of the problems I'm now encountering, which further adds to my confusion is in my site's "remove files" list within VSD 7 when opened, displays the files with the -v6. extension as still part of the file's folder diretory, even though the upgrade removed this naming extension from the main folder on my hard drive. Oddly however, VSD manages to still open and preview the site properly.

My issue is: when I go to remove the files that have the old folder directory (-v6), and add the properly pathed files from the renamed site folder on my HD to the root, they're missing because the remove function of the old files within VSD 7 actually removed them from the new directory that don't bear the same path!? Thus, a catch 22 if you will.

In other words, even though the file folder directory within VSD "remove files" shows the -v6 version, they're somehow correlated with the new file folder directory and function as such despite having different folder directories. How is this possible? Maybe I'm missing something or haven't had enough coffee yet? Any light on the matter would be most appreciated, as I'm worried I've wandered into the briar patch here folks.

Thanks in advance :)

The easiest way to clean all that stuff up is to open your site in VSD and then go to the File Menu > Save As and make a new directory on your desktop and save your website in there. This will clean everything up and put the data into one single folder for ya.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the quick response and suggestion. Unfortunately, this didn't have the intended affect. One thing I tried yet to no avail, was to extract the backup.zip that VSD created during the update process and open it in VSD 7 with the old folder directory name still in tact. When I then saved the site within the newly updated VSD however, again it atuo-renamed the site directory folder omitting the (-v6) from the overall folder/file path. And yet, when I open the site up again at this point (in VSD 7 after the auto-renaming occurs), lo and behold in the "remove files" list are still the (-v6) extensions to the file directory paths.

I cleared out my Prefetch, Windows Temp, and Internet Temp folders but this had none affect. Also, I did a system search for the folder directory containting the (-v6) name extension, but nothing popped up. I also rebooted, and still the add/remove files are screwed up. I'm at a loss really.

I've included a .jpg attachment of the incorrect "remove files" root directory list within VSD 7. Unfortunately, when I go to add files, none of those with the (-v6) naming are present in the root even though they show up in the remove files list. When I remove them in order to properly re-add them, they get removed from the site folder and thus are no longer present in order to add them. Hmm...maybe if I add them from a directory outside the newly named site folder?

Thanks again :)

Okay guys,

Thank you first off, but I believe I'm out of the briar patch :D

I deleted VSD from my hard drive, reinstalled, deleted the vsd file and site folder also, then from a thumb drive backup I opened my site folder in VSD7.0 and did a "save as" to my hard drive renaming the folder to the one intended. Basically, this is sort of what Scott suggested, only I had to open the website from an outside source other than the local C drive and resave from it back to the C drive.

All is well...for now :)

Again, thank you Scott for the assistance.
