What do they call this kind of site...

Melissa,

However important a #1 or #2 position in Google search results may be, it's useful to remember that it is not everything, nor is it the only thing that counts.

Just as an example, if you have an "active presence" elsewhere on the web and someone does a search on your name, will the information that pops up help you or hurt you? This kind of thing may prove to be of much greater relevance and importance, especially for a one-person operation like yours.

I would imagine that word of mouth and personal recomendations would count for much more in your line of business than trying to "engineer" your way from a #4 to a #2 (e.g.) position in the search results, which would probably be an exercise in futility anyway.

If you would have stuck with VSD you could have had it done by now.;):)

There's just too much that I couldn't do with VSD and that Wordpress does transparently.

Do you think that navbar menu at http://ColoradoProcessServers.net is easy to do with VSD?
It would be a bunch of squares hung loosely together on the page and poorly aligned with each other.

No I don't think so, I know so.;)

How'd you manage that?

I was getting very frustrated, trying to replicate my site using VSD.

Depends on who sees it, I suppose, but I doubt many would be inclined to search. In fact there's some evidence that people don't even visit my page when they see me in the search results, many of them just call the number.

Two people actually - family run.

Word of mouth counts some, in that we often get referrals from happy clients to others, but it's not like someone is going to go blacklist us with some cabal or something. At least I hope this country hasn't gone that far down the tubes yet.

I would imagine reading all the information about the program and how it works helps, as well as the many articles and seeing Eric's site with all the possible ways to use the program would help too. My guess is you walked into VSD and just expected to use it without bothering to learn it and decided it wouldn't do the job. That's my thoughts on it anyways. I'm pretty sure most people that are using VSD would tell you that your menu is pretty basic and almost any program would be able to do it really.

Here's the instructions and code for the menu. Do with them as you see fit.

Thanks Eric, very nice of you. :)

Yeah, probably a lot of my problems with VSD is that I don't have much time to study things, so I need software to be as intuitive to use as possible, so I can just jump right in and use it, without RTFM.

And of course sometimes RTFM doesn't help much either.

I have WordPress and the word intuitive definitely didn't come to mind. WordPress is often called a CMS.
I know what that means Certain Mental Stress, and judging by the amount of time people have spent helping you I bet you agree.:)

 Yeah, somewhat. The difference is that I've learned to use Wordpress, but not VSD.

Hey, come to think of it, VSD would get rid of the tables too, wouldn't it.

But then I'd have to figure out how to host it at Hostgator ( the web designer guy did that for me ), do without the plugins, and all that.

Cloudflare? ( It has me getting 100/98 ratings at GT Metrix now, with a .52 second load time! )
