web page darkens in chrome and firefox

I am trying to create my first web page using the HTML editor. The page looks great in preview and IE but when I open it in firefox or chrome the page darkens. In fact the whole monitor darkens if I open it in a second window. I have notice some other web pages on the net also have the same problem. Any idea what is going on and how do I correct it?

As Tom says - a link to a site that does this might help. I've never seen this (or maybe just never noticed it?). There's a slight difference in color display between Macs and PCs, but I've never heard of different browsers displaying light, brightness... differently.

I have it hosted at http://angletondivorce.com. Also I found the following website has the same problem in firefox and chrome but not IE8 http://computerwizard0.tripod.com/CSS/css.htm

Interesting... the computer wizard site looks the same to me in all browsers except for the green bar at top which loses its rounded corners and gradient in IE8. I do see some differences on the angletondivorce site; in IE the blue links are softer - not that intense 'electric' blue. Everything else seems the same brightness/darkness. The font changes, though. In Chrome and IE all the text appears as a serif font, but in FF it's sans-serif.

Did you look at the link above?
Did you notice that images on some Web sites appear darker than before or when viewing with a different browser?

I looked at your link but could not get the internal link to work. My browsers turn dark as the webpage opens. I am going to find another pc and determine if it is a problem with my system.

I just tired my daughter's laptop and it worked fine in all browsers except for the problems you noted. Now I just need to find out what is wrong with my desktop.

Thank you for your help.

I guess I'm not tracking because the page looked the same in IE and FF, and new tabs were not affected.

What can I say, it turned out to be a problem with my desktop and not my webpage or firefox/chrome. Life has lots of side paths which makes learning and life interesting.

Firefox 3.5 And Its Questionable Image Enhancement

It explains why some sites are showing up darker in FF than in other browsers. Like there's not enough differences between browsers already!

I hope your monitor isn't fizzing out
