Updating Website Creates Strange Images

I have been using Coffee Cup for almost a year. I have found that when I make changes to a site and click publish, and then look at the newly updated site, the images can appear a bit off. I now know that all I have to do is click the refresh icon and it puts everything back the way it should be, but not everyone is going to know to do this.

So here's my question. How can I prevent this from happening? For example, I have created a website for a client. It has her picture in front of a filled-in shape. When I update her site, the picture turns into a grey square. But if I click refresh, the site looks fine.

This issue is only going to happen to people who have visited the site prior to the update, but I want to ensure that all visitors see a clean, accurate website. Again, how can I prevent this from happening?

Thanks!

Very tempted to say, dont publish website till finished, but we all do, and we all make changes

I dont think there is a cure, remedy, or solution its just the way it is !

However its unlikely anyone will ever find the website in its early days less you send them there, and once it a busy site these things will probably never occur again.

Thanks for your reply, but I will be updating the content on the site all the time. We are posting wellness tips and other great information for people to read and share. I will be sending people to the site every month - via social media and email marketing - so I don't want former visitors to land on a messed up page.

I know there has to be a way to keep this from happening. Any other ideas out there?

There are probably refresh type scripts you can use to make the page reload when they get there. That's most likely about the best you can do as you cannot control how people have their browsers setup, cookies setup, whether they are silly enough not to ever clean their computers which refreshes cookies and cache etc. Nothing you can do about that part.

What you can do is find the scripts out in the web world (do a google search for page refresh script and you should find some) and put those into effect. They most likely won't work for 100% of the browsers, but you can check that on at least a good handful of them.

Another thing you can do is put some text on the front page of your site and tell people to refresh the page periodically to be sure the content updates on their computers.

Other than that, it's not on your end unfortunately where the problem lies, it's on the ends of people that don't know they need to refresh pages periodically, clean their browser and computer cache etc.

Good luck on it :)

Thanks, Jo Ann. I will check out the scripts.

Put this in the header (VSD: edit>header) of at least your home (index) page. It's not a foolproof solution, but it helps...

Thanks! So do I really need all of that in the header or could I just use the following?

<META HTTP-EQUIV="PRAGMA" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">

I already have a lot in the header - favicon & background. Would I put this tag at the very top of the other stuff?

Update >>>>> After adding the meta tags and doing everything else I can think of, I am still having issues with images upon publishing updates to the site.

Today, I updated a page to reflect new staff members. When I published the site, the shape was a gradient blue and the photo was a gray box. Once I clicked refresh, the correct images appeared.

GoDaddy is my host, so I contacted them to see if the issue was on their end. They don't know what the problem is and will look into for me.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Is it a CoffeeCup software issue? A GoDaddy issue?

Again, this is only happening if you have visited the site prior to the new updates. If you are a new visitor, then the site will look just fine for you.

ANY help, suggestions, comments will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
