SEO with Flash on Home page
I have created the majority of my website with SCCP. But the Home page I did with VSD7 with a link to the shopping cart.
The VSD Home page is nothing more than a Flash intro with a link. How is this going to be treated by a search engine? I am assuming that this is the first page the SEO sees (index.html) instead of the Shopping Cart page (index.php). How is the best way to optimise the VSD Home page?

As far as I know there is no way to optimise a page with only a flash banner and a link.

CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!
Well that's not good!
So in other words, having a flash intro on a separate page is not a good idea? I assume the search engines see this page and go no further? Or do they see the SEO optimazation done on the main pages?

Thanks Tom, that answers my questions. Bye-bye flash intro!!

Before you throw away your Flash intro there are a couple of tricks that you can utilize.
The first and best would be to have the flash displayed on the homepage in a popup that closes once the Flash has stopped playing, or if the browser viewing your page doesn't support Flash.
The other way is to place Some Links and text in the container that holds your flash. It is very common for there to be the Message "You browsers doesn't support Flash download it here" All you do is say "Oops!,your browsers doesn't appear to support Flash, we are sorry you missed intro here is my homepage and here is how to contact me... etc." instead.
Both of these will let you display a Flash intro and not hide you site from the great search gods without too much trouble.
If you really want to work hard you can write a javascript that detects if the visitors browser supports flash or not and displays content accordingly.

Can you explain this one further?
The way I have it now the flash is just placed at the top of the page, a banner. Is this different than "in a popup"?
And are you saying that once this flash popup closes, it goes directly to your shopping cart?
I would be interested in learning how to do this.
Levi that is great for the flash movie... but it still does not optimise the index page.
Actually the only thing you can do to optimise the page is have the flash intro and add text to the page under the flash movie. Just move the text you have now on the first page to the index page.
Do not have a home page but link your shop home button to your index page. If you do not want to do that then have part of your information on the index page and more information on the shop home page.
Ensure you have the keywords in the following meta tags: titel (extremely important), description, keywords meta tag and you can also add a subject meta tag in which you use the keywords.
When you compose your text ensure that your text has the right keyword density.
Also an advantage of the index page is that you can add the google verificaton meta, yahoo verification meta tag and also a bing verification meta tag to your index page.
I hope this helps

I see you are working with the pro version. My advice, forget the flash banner and concentrate on optimising your shop which you can do very well with the pro version. I can help you with that and also how to get your shop verified by google without having to use a meta tag.
Btw are you also working with the shopping cart designer pro? If so I have a few really good tips for you how to improve your shop design and layout. Like adding images on the shop main page, chaging the background or even the color of the price tags and much more.
If you want help directly go to my website lineviewwebdesign co uk and send me your email and I will get back to you.
