What things can I do to get search engine crawlers to find my sight?

Well you could just wait, which is what I usually do. Eventually, they will crawl your site since the domain is registered.

If you are in a hurry you have some other options. The first is to submit your site to the search engine, all of the big guys (Google, Bing, Ask, Yahoo!) have a place where you can request your site be indexed.

The other way to speed things up is to hit forums, etc. and mention your websites URL address (This is why some people have several websites in there taglines and/or profile) the upside to this is the search engines will boost your sites rankings when they crawl that site.

I seem to recall that Coffeecup used to have some sort of pay service that helped with that several years ago. If they still do somebody here I'm sure will be able to tell you all about it.
