Scrollbars in VSD mess up alignment...

Hi, I have used scroll bars in VSD but as I could not put them in VSD I think I somehow did it in HTML Editor and then put it into VSD - did it so long ago I can't quite remember. All of this is so new and so weird to me! Anyway, trying my best and would really like to get this website launched!

So the scroll bars work but not totally as it messes up the alignment of other things on the page. Any suggestions? I have attached to this message the html page with scroll bar stuff. and web page site - I think. NO - COULDN'T ATTACH!!

Also having difficulty getting forms to work - I can not get it to accept my email address though I have set it to windows and set my smtp settings. Can not for the life of me figure out what I am missing!

Any help greatly appreciated!

If you mean the scrollbars that automatically turn up along the right side (and possibly along the bottom) of the viewport, they are not 'put in', they appear if the page is longer (or wider) than the viewport. If you have some pages that have scrollbars and some without, then you could make every page long enough for the scrollbars to appear. Then you know that a scrollbar is going to be there and can adjust your design accordingly. You should actually try avoiding horizontal scrollbars, as people out there generally don't like having to scroll sideways.

I hope I have understood your question and that my answer is what you had hoped for. As to the attachment which you were not able to include, did you have that document open when trying to attach and send it? Try again when the document is closed.

Regarding the form issues, do you know for sure that your host has a windows server? And are you using an email adress provided by that host?
Ha en riktig god dag!

Hi Inger,

Thanks for response. No, I inserted the scrollbars - text was too long for space I wanted it to go into and as I wanted to keep all the pages to the same format it was what I thought would be the best way to do it - so scroll bars verticle, just on side and only in one page.

Document was closed when I tried to attach but got the message that file had to be txt, gif, etc - I originally tried a pdf, then a doc so not sure what to attach!

As for form - when it asks if Linux or Windows is that not for what I am using but provider? Silly me! So much to learn! It is in the "Form Setting" under the advanced tab. Is this my internet provider or my web hosting provider?

Thanks,

Deborah

Deborah,

Your hosting provider is likely running either a Windows server or a Linux server. Linux servers use PHP and Windows servers have ASP and may also have PHP. For the Form builder, the Windows server PHP will possibly not work.

If you login to your host account, you should be able to find something that tells you about your hosting package such as which server type, number of email addresses, number and type of databases, etc.

Deborah,

I actually enjoy learning, but learning always feels better if there is less pain involved. :D

Keep at it, and you will begin to enjoy building web pages. ;)

Thanks Bill, I actually do enjoy it (though makes me feel my brain is just too old) and look forward to my next one!! And, yes, we are constantly learning and I love that! It makes life so much more interesting.

Thanks again for words of encouragement!

Deborah,

This OLD Brain is getting stretched. I am taking the last class I need to complete my Master of Business Administration degree. As a grandpa, I have found things get very hectic, but the brain needs exercise just like the body, so I find time.

The more you exercise the brain, the better for the future. :)
