Problems using Mcrosoft Vista

My CoffeeCup designed website works great with 5 different browsers (very minor differences) using Windows XP & 2000. With Vista, it's another story.

With Vista, one text box overlap the one below it because the last word or two of most lines drops down, making the text box longer.

Is this an HTML / XHTML thing? I heard that Vista uses all XHTML. Does CoffeeCup not support this? Any ideas on how to fix this?

The site is www.suzyandbyron.com

If you have XP and Vista, let me know if you see what I'm talking about.

Thanks!!

Byron,

I don't think this is a Vista thing. Looking at http://www.suzyandbyron.com/PriorGigs.html I see the last line is off the background text, and I am running Windows 2000 here at work. I am using Firefox, and since Microsoft has recently tried to update to a web standard browser, that may be the cause of what you are seeing.

What version of VSD are you using? There is a new version that should make the pages look the same for most browsers. I suggest you download the latest version of VSD and see if that fixes the problem.

Hello again Bill!! Thanks for responding.

I'm using VSD version 5.8.1

I'm aware of the length problem on that page with a couple of the browsers. That's minimal. Internet Explorer and Safari are both good. Firefox and Netscape both have one line of text extended beyong the shaded area. And Opera is actually crunched a little. They seem to handle the fonts differently. But... they all show only what is to be on that line without extending it. So, this is bearable.

What I'm seeing on a Vista PC though, can be seen from the first line of the homepage on. With vista, the Suzy & Byron Chertik is split into 2 lines with Chertik dropping down over top of the next textbox below it. This is happenning throughout the site.

Thanks man!

Byron,

There are some errors on your page that could cause problems such as this. Here is a small section of your code:
</HEAD>

<BODY LEFTMARGIN=0 TOPMARGIN=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 BGCOLOR="#ffffff" LINK="#0000ff" VLINK="#800080">

<!-- Centering -->
<STYLE TYPE="text/css">
#container { position:relative; margin: 0px auto 0 auto; height: 100%; width:950px; text-align:left; padding-left:1px;}
</STYLE>
<DIV id="container">
<!-- --------- -->

Notice the </HEAD> followed by the <body> then there is a <style> that belongs above the </HEAD>. It is possible that some browsers will ignore that style statement.

You also have a stray set of code that is doing nothing about line 193 to 195 and it looks like this:
</td></tr>

</table>

</form>

</td></tr>

</table>

Half of that code should be removed.

I think that the new VSD will take care of most of your differences in browsers, and may fix what you are seeing in Vista. When I get home, I can use IE7 (which is what Vista uses) and see how your home page looks with that one.

Well... that code had to have been created by the CoffeeCup program. I hadn't added anything to what it created, except for the refresh stuff from a month or 2 ago.

I'll download the latest VSD and try uploading a newly saved file using the new version. I thought I had the latest.

thanks Bill

Byron,

My mistake!!! The newest VSD is still in beta testing.

Sorry about that. The new version has the improved display features and many other nice things.

Byron,
I have a fairly new computer running Windows Vista. Still getting used the the odd Vista issue. I have checked your links and compared side by side Internet Explorer and FireFox. Both browsers display the web pages of your site very well. I don't see anything wrong with the text areas in either browser. No overlapping of anything. Could be an issue with the monitor rather than Vista itself.
Is the Vista machine you are using set up with a different size monitor at different resolution than the XP machine?

Hi, I am using Vista, as well, and my fonts are in Script. It dosen't matter which one, all of them are the same. When diplaying my web on my brower, using my Vista machine, it is great. When displayed on another machine with Windows 2000 and XP, the font is changed from Script to another font. I have tried deleting the text box and recreating it, but the same problem occurs. I am using the latest version of VSD. What would you suggest. Web site: www.jacquelineengland.com

idan2,

Unless someone has the same font installed on their computer, they will NOT see your script, and likely will see the default for their browser. The code (html or css) will specify the font you are using, but unless you specify a backup that is on my computer, I will still see the default for my browser.

I hope I made sense of that.

Hi Bill, yes this makes sense, but how do I know what fonts to use so that all Windows versions can see them. I understand that there are some fonts, very plain ones, that are standard throughout all versions, but I have seen web pages that have used script fonts and they appear on windows vista, 2000, and xp. How do they do this? thanks, Jackie
