Problem downloading from my website

I'm creating a website for teachers with free lessons to use on a "smartboard" (an interactive whiteboard). However, whenever I upload the file and test downloading it online I get an error message that says "the file is not available for download." I'm using dreamweaver mx and uploading using filezilla and cuteFTP. The files are on the server and I can download any other type of file I place online. For some reason it won't let me download the "smartboard" files, which have the extensions .xbk, .notebook, or .nbk (these are the file types for the Smart notebook software which is used with the interactive whiteboard.)
Also, the "author" of the error message I get Has "SMART notebook" in the title bar of the error message.
I've tried literally 100 different ways to get the file to download, the only way I was sucessful was zipping the file. However, the files are so small that I don't want my sites visitors to have to deal with zipped files. (also, many of my teacher colleagues don't know what a zipped file is!)
If you could help me with this problem, I would be forever grateful!

Currently I have some test links only on my webpage, soley for testing purposes. If you'd like to help and see what error message you get, go to christianjordan.com and click on any of the 8 links to the Smart notebook files.

PLEAS HELP!!!! :)

Thanks,
Chris Jordan

hi chris,
i was wondering if in filezilla-under edit-settings-file transfer settings, if you have .nbk in the tranfer types spot? and set for auto detect.

Bruce,

Thanks for the reply. I tried out the settings you suggested but still no luck. Have any more guesses as to what my problem is??

Thanks,
Chris

Christian, I suggest you go to Smart Technologies with your question. This forum is for users of CoffeeCup software, and even though we try to help with other things, you are likely to get better answers if you go to the developer's site and look for a forum there.

Honestly, I think it's the web host service (GoDaddy), more specifically being a Windows IIS server. What I think is the problem is that the Windows server doesn't have those odd filename extensions in its list of known file types and so it chooses to give an error rather than to simply prompt to download/save like it seems to do for the Linux servers.
I uploaded a .nbk & .notebook to a Linux host and my Windows 2003 server. The .notebook file prompted to download from both sources. The .nbk prompted to download in Linux, but from the Windows server, it listed the contents, like reading an XML file (which it basically is). Odd that GoDaddy's server treats it as if the file doesn't exist. Unless, of course, the files really aren't where your links are pointing to. I'd check w/ GoDaddy. You might be able to throw in some code to force a Save As prompt, but I have no experience with that:

Perhaps this an issue that a local directory .htaccess file can resolve.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!
