Playlists in HTML5 Video tag

Hi,

At the moment I am embedding videos using javascript but I thought I'd give the <video> tag a try. I was quite impressed with its simplicity of the code and the clarity of the playback - videos using mp4 files.

I was wondering if there is a simple way of extending this tag to include a playlist. The nearest I have come is this tutorial for audio using the <ul> and <li> tags:

All the other tutorials I have searched direct you back to javascript.

Has anyone explored this area or can recommend any tutorials?

Thanks, Paul

Thanks Eric - I'll have a play.

Another way I thought is to have a standard list with links to individual movie files then also compile a single composite movie file with them all on as a 'play all' option. I can then do simple links to pages with longer texts and biogs which I have found difficult in javascript using JW Player.

Here's a thought...use Web Form Builder. Working on it now. I'll get back to you ...

Okay, this site is not finished yet, but I put up an interesting form as a playlist.

When switching videos, you need to stop the first video before starting the second, or they will play at the same time. Also, for some reason, when switching videos you may need to start/pause/start to get it to play. I'm bouncing in my 18-wheeler at the moment but I'll work on this some more tonight! :D

Even though the video is hidden it will keep playing. Your probably going to need some kind of onClick event to stop the video from playing.

Matt you would have been better off doing a SMF Forum website instead of a hand created one for your gaming purposes. Everything you need for logins, message board forums, and many other things for a gaming Clan/Guild are already there built in or are already created modules that you add to it. You really took the hard way, and you'll probably not get as much features the way you are going instead of doing a CMS/Forum type site. Just some food for thought there.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
