Photo Gallery Freezes
Visual Site Designer is great, so seamless and easy. My problem is I've spent 80% of my time setting up a photo gallery slideshow. For those of you who have followed my saga, I ended up trialing CC photo gallery for its ease of use. After some nice help from the users on this forum, it worked, so I plunked down the money for the full version.
Apparently it's not just a license code to simply enter, and with my inexperience, I just couldn't get the "BUY IT NOW" header to disappear when I published. So I ended up creating an entirely new slideshow.
My problem now is after I publish, while the slideshow is running a "loading" bar appears in the center while loading a new photo, and then a few photos into the slideshow, the photo freezes. The music plays on perfectly. Any advice on how to fix this? I have reduced all the image resolutions, and even reduced the size of the music file so it would be "lighter". The site is www.kimwarehouse.com > "Photos"
If I can just get this photo gallery to work right, I'll be done! I look to you guys again for help. Thank you, Stan

I looked through the photos in your gallery from beginning to end and it never "froze" on me. It took a while to load, especially in the beginning when all the thumbnails are loading first, but this is normal at this end since I have a very slow connection.
Showing the loading bar is optional in the program, but I think it is quite useful, since with it you can at least distinguish between a 'freeze-up' and a 'slow load'.
Problems with galleries are most often associated large image file sizes or simply too many images. You are aware of this, of course. The most effective way of reducing image file size is to resize the photos to an 'optimal' pixel size. In your case they should be a maximum of about 800px wide, to match your display size. The next consideration would be the jpeg compression ratio which also needs to be 'optimized' so you don't lose visible image quality.
The number of images in an individual gallery is important since all the thumbnails load before the first image is shown. With 24 pictures, you may be around the upper, practical limit in this respect. You could always split the gallery in two separate ones...
I don't have any suggestion for a "fix" of your freezing-up problem, since I simply could not replicate that...
BTW, you have some nice pictures there, - of a nice looking family!

Thank you Per for your detailed response and kind comments. Sounds like I pushed it to the limit with regard to the software's capability. I'll pull a few photos out and tweak the resolution a bit more. At least I know there's not an error in the software or a gross mistake I made. I imagine someone with slow bandwidth would even magnify the freezing problem (it always ran smoothly in "preview" mode).
Thanks so much. Stan

I didn't mean to imply that you may be approaching any limits of the software's capabilities. You are probably miles away from that!
Instead, the 'practical limits' I'm referring to would be all about how the viewers may react to slow loading, etc. This is, of course, not only highly subjective on my part, but also dependent on connection speeds and other variables at the viewer's end. In other words, my perception of 'limits' may be all wrong.
Still, attempting to optimize image sizes, compression ratios and album sizes is always a good idea...!

Edit: Removing any of the pictures would be a pity, since they are all pretty good. I'd suggest using more than one album instead!

Stan, the scroll bar is optional is in the settings, you can switch it off
And you can also change the way the images fade in and fade out
Checked a couple of galleries on my 5 meg broadband and they seem fine.
One small thing, your header and the right hand corner image in VSD pages, if you do a save for web in photoshop, or CC web image studio the reduction in size might help all pages load a little faster.

Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

Thanks so much. Without your guys' help, I'd have been really stuck. I do have a couple of questions:
Is there a "Last updated" function in VSD?
Is there a "Number of Visitors" function in VSD?
A curious thing about CC Photogallery is that it seems to be uploading its files twice. I see them (in Filezilla) on the server once in the root and once in the "public html" folder. I am guessing because I upload from CC Photogallery when I save it, and once when I publish VSD. Do I need to do the former?
Thanks! Stan

As you are using VSD let it do all the uploading, dont forget photogallery is an independant program often used by non VSD users.
The publish button only uploads new, re-sink tends to upload all
I think theres plans for future in S drive for more stats, outside s drive use hosting cpanel
