What is the 'proper format' for entering a phone number in a click to call link?

Is it with or without the country code?

Just wondering what everyone else does.

I would write like this in the code: href="tel:1-234-567-8910", and then (234)-567-8910 as visible. Whether to include the country code or not, that depends on the site, who your audience would be.

I don't use the display just a click to call button. I was just wondering about the country code for mobile in the US.

If we use our home phone and dial a local number using the country code we get a message saying we don't have to use the 1. I'll try it and see if it makes a difference.
