I put together a page ( url is ... http://elizabethkosterich.com ) that looks different on two computers. The page look fine on computer 1 ( Windows 7, FF 10.0.2, IE9) but looks different on computer 2 ( WindowsXP, FF 10.0.2, IE 8). I can understand that things may look different depending on which version of IE is running but the page looks different in the same version of FF on the two machine. The font for the name is the big noticeable difference on FF. On computer 2, in IE8,the top menu runs vertically where on computer 1 it runs horizontally ( which is the way it should be). There is the same font issue when viewed in IE8 on computer2. I need help please.

Thanks

PK,

Hard to say... On my two computers (win7 and vista) the page looks exactly the same. Your font issue, could it be that you have used some font for the page that is not installed on both computers?

I also downloaded your source code and opened it in the HTML Editor and found something interesting, mainly for the CC developers:

When I previewed your site in the Editor's external preview, the menu was vertical. When I previewed it in the Editor, selecting 'Local preview' the pages had a horizontal menu in IE, FF and Safari, all latest versions. BUT, when I, having the external preview window open and selecting 'Preview in browser' the menu was vertical in the same three browsers. How come? In Prteferences I had set IE9 as my default browser for previewing. Eric, do you get the same?

Yup I get the same thing.
I was thinking it's the doc type causing the issue.
I checked it with WC3 and the menu has a lot of validation issues with the doc type.

I didn't check anything in the code especially as it was way past midnight. Today and the coming week I'll be strapped for time as I'm going away, so others will have to 'disentangle' this one. ;)

Re the font issue, I don't rthink that the calibri font was installed on XP... Might be wrong, though.

Thanks everyone for checking things out. I will make the name text an image and that should take care of different fonts on different computers? As far as what Inger discovered with reference to the menu looking horizontal or vertical depending on what it is viewed with, are there any suggestions as to what I should do?

Thanks

I have reported it to the developers, and they have it logged. I guess we'll have to wait what the next update will bring.

I would have gone through the code with a microscope if I'd had time, but now maybe Eric can do that. He said he had discovered some errors.
