Page length

Hello to all,
I am helping a friend construct her website using VSD. Why is it that we need to set the page length? I have used other design software(on a Mac) and as you add more content the page automatically lengthens to accommodate. I'm guessing that as I build and add content to the page in VSD I can start with a longer page and shorten it to what I need after I finish designing.

Some templates have fixed sizes...the background images for instance might have a fixed size...that would be the main reason, I would guess. I do not use VSD a lot, but did have a hand in designing some templates.

The background image size makes sense, Melanie. I'm speaking from far less overall experience but I do use VSD a lot. If you're using a template where an image is set as the page background, and you expand the page from the original size, you'll get some tiling around the edges.

VSD starts a page my defining the whole area as a single cell of a table, I expect to impose control for explicitly fixing the locations of the elements, though I don't understand enough of the arcanery to know why that's their preferred method. I usually start with the set size, and if elements start to creep past the bottom, I go back and extend the page length a little as a time as needed. In such cases I also add an anchor label to the top of the page and add a "return to top" link at the bottom. Since I wasn't using a background image I added length with merry abandon.
