Thanks to Fe Pixie for the advice about the backup.bat file. It took me about 3 tries to get it written today. It also takes about 2 hours to run. I'll definitely be setting this to go in the wee hours!

Now I need to write one to run on the other computer...I guess I can set it up to run on alternating nights.

Thanks! You're right...that was easy and cheap....Normally two things I'm a big fan of. :P

Hi Bret - You prob have all the solutions you ever wanted as far as Back-Up is concerned, but thought I would offer some advice as well.

I use the backup software that comes with Nero. Only really OK for individual files, but it can restore them as well. I would think other CD/DVD progs like these all offer similar things. And as it is part of the prog, it is free. I also use Acronis True Image. I had to restore the other day and it went like a breeze.

Lastly, I have a small A4 sheet above my desk that says 'Backup, Backup, Backup' in Times New Roman 72.

Mark

PS - Bret, I have made a comment about your Auto Run suggestion at http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/viewtop … 8829#p8829 It may, though also may not interest you.

Did you notice Bret that it takes ages to run the first time then it only bothers with the stuff that's new or changed each time after that?

Nifty huh? what more could anyone ask for for file backups...
maybe some people like throwing away money to have someone put a script similar to this in a fancy window...

Guess I'm an old fashioned miser ;)

Hmmmm....actually it appears to be backing up everything...not just stuff that changed.

Did I miss one of the little letters?

Also, Windows isn't allowing it to run without a password. Is there any way to bypass that?

eh - yup - you musta missed a letter if it's making a whole new complete copy each time - you'll quickly overflow your disks that way - check it again.

the password plot - The scheduler on my XP lets me save the password so enter it once then backups go by themselves - does yours not?
