I don't know - It doesn't do that for every ico on the sites I've done, just yours.

It's not the html tag.
It's not the tag placement.
It's not a path issue.
That only leaves a problem with the ico.

Try snagging an ico from any site and trying it with your code (an ico you didn't create) just for haha's and see what happens.

Using Firefox, I clicked on the link in Tom's message. I right clicked the image, and clicked save image as. The image was saved as favicon.ico.

Tom, Could you have been away long enough to move into the twilight zone?

OOPS.

I just looked at the Firefox tab, and now I am in the twilight zone also. Firefox reports the file as "favicon.ico (JPEG Image, 16x16 pixels"

I just opened the file using GIMP 2.2, and GIMP reports the file as "favicon.ico-2.0 (RGB, 1 layer) 16x16"

I think sleep deprivation is affecting my mind. :)

Bill,

I'm not totally following you. What should I do?

Byron,

At this point, I don't really know what the problem could be. My last two messages were commenting on the possibility that the favicon was actually a jpeg file, but I don't think that is the issue.

At this point, I think the problem is with IE.

What are the 2 browsers that you test with.

and... where do you recommend that I go to create a new favicon?

Thanks

Byron,

I personally downloaded a free icon program. I don't remember where I got it, but the same program is available here:
http://www.tucows.com/preview/217176

It works great for me, but I don't think it will do the neat things that others are doing with favicons, such as making them move.

My ico creator is actually a utility of another program I use unrelated to web authoring. There are also free online seervices that you upload your jpg and it spits out the ico to download. Just Google ico creator, etc.

I test in the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and FirezFox. This pretty much hits the majority of users as a Gecko based browser is a Gecko based browser no matter what the brand may be.

ok... I'm a little closer... I recreated the favicon. It now apprears on a blank page when you type www.suzyandbyron.com/favicon.ico with Internet Explorer as well as Firefox. This is good! Previously, it only showed up with Firefox this way.

BUT....

It still does NOT show up in the address bar using Internet Explorer. I tried all of these header tags...

<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="http://www.suzyandbyron.com/favicon.ico">

<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="/favicon.ico">

<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="favicon.ico">

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.suzyandbyron.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

<link rel="icon" type="image/ico" href="/favicon.ico">

I tried a couple of them at a time as well as all of them at one time. The favicon always shows up with Firefox but never with IE.

Please help!! I'll try anything suggestions.

Thank you!!
Byron
