The unpublished older websites are now available yet the recent one with the problem - still is a problem.
I followed the directions for vnu backup recovery notice, and that didn't work.
I'm stumped, because the front page is there when I try to open the file (in the preview box).

How do I open an existing Web site in Visual designer - I own the code but did not develop in VSD. I would like my end user to use VSD to make minor site edits. I have no idea how ot open the existing site

You cannot. VSD can only open websites created by itself.
