Inger is correct.

Your problem is the content in the right hand table column. having said that, you have used 10 instances of the <h> tags before the images you are on about, that is way to excessive. Below the images you have again used way too many <h> tags, but surprisingly you have not used the most important one which is the <H1> heading.

Heading tags are used to define the headings in your page and you should use them as you would if you were writing a book or article and not to highlight text in your page.

This is interesting Jim. But isn't H1 the biggest tag, and doesn't it usually do huge text? I don't want that on the page, though maybe I could change the definitions. But should H1 always be at the top, even if it's smaller text than H2 for example?

These tags seem really confused at my site. A friend suggested making the informational text on the lower right, bigger and "less busy" but doing so seems to screw up other things. And some of the tags don't even appear to work, when I try to define them to make the text bigger.

Melissa, it's correct that h1 is the largest one, but as you say, you can define size, space above and below, font, position etc yourself, preferrably in the css file. Usually it is placed at the top of the page, but there is no law against putting it elsewhere. It's the tag h1 that is important, not what size or where it is.

The fact that something doesn't work may be that some definitions in the css file and some in the html file contradict each other. But how about placing the name of your organization in h1 across the wide blue sky of the main image? Just a thought...

I'd love to help you redoing the site, but I have never worked in Word Press. I would be able to create a new css and html file and rid you of the layout table, but I don't know how it is imported in Word Press.

Well Wordpress isn't that hard, and these are standard things. I know how to get them into Wordpress once they are done. But the problem with Wordpress, is that it's done with .php files and all that and I can't work with it in HTML Editor and see anything while I do it, I have to use the Wordpress control panel to apply everything and see the results.

But if you would be interested, could I email you privately or you email me privately?

I just had time to work on this a little more. I reduced the height of the photo and started redefining the H tags, adding a h1 now, but it won't obey what I told it. I said to make h1 in 18 point and blue, and it's making it on 30 point in black, and I don't know why.

What I see is blue. :)

But the main problem with all the white space below the main image is the table layout, and that there is too much content in the right column. I'm attaching a suggestion which could be a solution.

Yeah, I played with something last night and changed it to blue, but I'm not totally sure what. There was a p definition at the top of the style.css file and I changed that slightly and suddenly the black text went away.

If I want to change the design and get away from tables now, would it make it easier for me to change things and adjust the spacing and all? What does it need to change to, instead of tables?

I was hoping to hire someone to fix all this up for me, but the original designer only charged $375 for the whole site design, and apparently it might cost more than that, just to have someone fix it for me now, so we cant afford it. I'll have to learn how myself.
