CSS Menu Designer- Diff btw subitem...

When I create a menu with CSS Menu Designer in the HTML editor, what is the difference between a "sub-menu" and a "sibling menu" ? They both display vertically and appear no differently from each other underneath the main menu item. The sibling menus do not appear on the "same level" as the sub-item buttons, they appear below them, as if they were just another sub-item. So what's the difference ?

Ultimately, my problem is that some of my menu items have up to 8 submenu items. This brings the drop down list to below where my text begins and the menu seems to drop down behind it. I was hoping to get around this by creating "sibling" menus so that the sibling items would appear horizontal to the subitems, and this would cut the amount of space for drop downs by 1/2. Any other fixes to this other than dropping down my text by about 100 pixels? Thanks for your help.

Not sure what you mean by levels, but in my file below 'untitled' 18, 19 and 20 are sub item, sub-sub item and sub-sub-sub items of #3. Items 25 and 26 are siblings of 18 and also sub items of 3, whereas 21 and 22 are siblings of 20 and sub-sub-sub items of 3.

Thank you! I think I've got it finally figured out. I had the function of a sub item mixed up with the function of a sibling menu.
