Hello everyone. I am new to the forum area but I can see by reading some of the posts that there are a lot of knowledgeable people here to draw upon for info.
Havng said that I am asking for an initial step by step instruction on getting into Style sheet Maker. I watched the Overview and quickly realized that there isn't anything on it that actually ges you started. They say "you can do this and you can do that", but they don't tell you "how".
Anyone up for a little explanation on some of the basics?
I will be grateful to no end for any and all help on this. I have several sites and I use Webstudio 5.0 to build them. Having style sheets will make my work a lot easier and a lot more fruitful.
Thanks in advance for any help sent my way

I guess the first question I have is, what program are you using to create the style sheets, HTML Editor, CC Style Sheet Maker or some other animal :)

Hey, John, I'm not sure if this is a solution for you, but CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer is a pretty neat WYSIWYG design tool that publishes your pages with CSS. After you're done creating a layout you can use any text editor (or a specialized CSS editing program) to fiddle & tweak your HTML and stylesheet.

I find that it saves a lot of time calculating the small (incremental) CSS properties. CC VSD gets me in the ballpark and from there it's just a matter of specifying a pixel here or there.

Hope that helps,

Kevin

John, here is a good tutorial for learning CSS: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

They even have a 'sandbox' where you can play with the code along with what you learn.

This is also independent of any particular programme, you may use Notepad if you wish.

If you ARE going for a prog. to create CSS, then the one built into the CC HTML Editor is much better - and much more up to date - than the CC style sheet maker.

Hello again.
Yes, I downloaded CC Style Sheet Maker but getting the hang of it is turning out to be quite the task. It didn't tell me to start anywhere in particular it just said things it could do but gave no starting point to do them. I have been playing with the program for a couple of hours but I'm not having a lot of success.

I think I'll check out the Visual Site Designer and see if that will work for me. I ate to have to go to two different programs to get what I want and then "paste" it into Webstudio 5.0. There ought to be a better way.... yes?
Thanks Kevin... I'll go that way for a bit and see if that is 'do able'.

My other (and best) option would be to "talk to" someone back and forth online that is up on CC Style Sheet and get my bearings and then go on from there, but thus far no one has stepped up with that offer.....
I'll stay plugged in here in case someone else has another solution up their sleeve.
Thanks everyone. I can see that this is a good place to learn.

Okay Inger... I will go check out the HTML Editor Program. Which is better; the o:/ne Kevin chose or the one Inger chose? :/

I don't now anything about Web Studio, but with the HTML Editor you don't need any other site builder.

Edit: I just saw that we had posted more or less at the same time...

It depends, if you know - or are willing to learn - how to code in html, then I would go for the html Editor. If not, then VSD would be better.

About learning CSS: You can also learn a lot by taking a site that used css and try to understand what the different tags and declarations do, but I would advise you to get some basics first, from that w3c site I mentioned above.

I have already been on the W3schools site. they aren't much more help but they do h=give a lot of good reference information to think aboutr.
I had to call a friend (geek) to find out that you can start with Notepad and then save the finished product as a .css file, but neither of the tutorials says a word about that. So how does a novice such as myself get that kind of info if he doesn't have a computer geek standing by to bail him out?

I'm downloading CC HTML Editor as we speak.... what a hassle! I'm getting too old for this stuff!

It's probably time I bit the bullet and learned the code. I have been building sites for 5 years now with the Webstudio software. I had been doing a lot of other things like music, video and concerts and so I didn't have the time to get deeper into it then, but now that my new company is on the line to make money, I feel that I should take advantage of every avenue and make the site look really pro like it should.
My old site is:
www.onelordproductions.com
and I've done about 25 other sites along that line. I think the idea of CSS is going to be good for me with my change in schedule. I don't have near the time I did before and the style sheets will work better for me in making changes across the board.
