Hi all from Melbourne Australia, and let me thankyou for your wonderful software. I am just getting to know it having only ever used front page.
I am not a full on web developer but have been wanting to create my own.

The problem i have is that i am building a new web site from scratch, having made a home page, and then other title pages of which i want to link.
Question is how do you link pages successfully?
I was wanting to use the menu builder program to create buttons and then link them to my pages, not sure how to do this.
Have used the link box in vsd to join 2 pages but this does not provide me with fancy buttons to go between pages?
Any help much appreciated

I take it that you are using VSD to create your site, but which menu builder are you using? CoffeeCup has two, the DHTML Menu builder and the Flash Menu builder. The flash one would be the easier for you to use, just create your menu and insert it using the flash tool in VSD. Let VSD handle the upload.

If you want to use the link box, you can use ANY picture you want to create your menu. So you could go hunting for some fancy buttons, place some text on them and turn them into links, just as you would do with a plain text link.

Hello Pete,

Those were great suggestions from Inger. I wanted to add just a little more feed back on how to do what Inger meant when she said "place some text on them and turn them into links, just as you would do with plain text link."

What you would do is in fact like she said, place a picture (the picture will be your button) and text on the button then you would highlight what it is that you want to be a click-able area, then look upward and click on the box with a picture of a chain and with the word "Link". Once you have done all of this, you will be able to link this button to a one of your pages that you created in your project or link it to a totally new URL.

Hope this helps!...:D

I posted a question a few days ago and followed the instructions but it isn't working. What I want to do is to have a menu bar on my home page that will link to the other pages. It was suggested that I use Flash Menu Builder. I have downloaded the free copy and have created the buttons. I have copied that to my home page. What I can't seem to do is to link each button with the proper page in my website.

In Flash Menu Builder the box that comes up wants me to enter HTML and then upload it to my server. I presently have a site on my server and don't want to delete it until I have my new webpages ready. My previous site was done by someone else.

Thanks for any help.

Hiya James,

Not sure where or how you posted a question here as this looks to be your first post on CC's forums?

Anywho, do you have some examples of what you entered into those buttons for web addresses? I don't use the program, but I could fire it up if someone else doesn't give you a hand in too short a time as I'm sure they will. A little more info would be helpful here though.

James, you are not saying which sitebuilding software you are using. It would be easier to explain to you if we knew that.

But the sequence I would follow is to create the first page of the site, and then decide on which other pages you need and what to call them. After that I would fire up the Flash menu builder and create the buttons and the linking to the various pages. The linking to the different pages has to be completed within the menu builder.. Then save everything in the same folder (page, menu and files folder).

When it comes to inserting the menu into the page you have created, that's when it would be useful to know which site builder you are using. Coding or just drag and drop uses different techiques.

Anyway, when you have placed the menu on the first page and adjusted everything to your liking, you can use that page as a master and copy it (save it with a different file name). Save everything to the same folder; pages, menu and all the files. You will then be able to navigate between the pages locally on your computer. You don't have to upload it until you have got it the way you want it.

Hello,

I feel like this is a stupid question - but- I can't seem to get a object to link. I made the object,
write the object text on the object and link it and it doesn't work? Am I missing something.
I used a template. They have buttons that I made to link to other pages on the site. Now I
want to copy and paste more to make more links and it's not working..

Post a link to a page where you have modified the links so people can see what's going on.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

I have not dared to upload my new pages.
I already have a site up and running with lots of pages and images and links.
I want to get things running first and then upload the whole new site.
I should be able to link to an object- right or do I have to use a text link on the object?
Thanks,

John, if you haven't uploaded, maybe you could zip the files and attach them to a post here. If you want our help we need to see the problem.

You could also let us know which site builder and which template you are using.
