Keeps coming up as a question since CC started SDRIVE so this might help

Imagine your website like an old fashioned index box, for those to young to remember, these were a hard oblong box, usually made of cardboard, with a drawer inside and they were stackable each one independent from the others but put together looked like a multiple drawer unit.

Imagine these belong in an office block owned by a newspaper (one of Murdocks emporium)

As an employee of Richard Murdock you personally develop a website as required for a specific purpose, so your index box gets named www.yourname.com with a URL which is provided by your hosting company Murdockhosting.com BUT (BIG BUT) which he purchase through domainmonster.com (free advert they are good and cheap) and they sell them on behalf of NOMINET

So at the top you have NOMINET (you probably will never have dealings with)

Bought by Murdockhosting.com on your behalf from Domainmonster.com and initially hosted by him Murdockhosting.com

Having completed your website, each separate part (ie) images , forms, payment gateways or html pages behind a separate index card in your personal index box you give it to your personal secretary called Fiona Toni Parker (FTP) and she takes it and gives it to the BOSS Murdock to publish

In tomorrows edition of one of his newspapers the Sunday Express in amongst all the other newspaper companies displayed in WWW your website appears for public reading.

Now here is the complicated bit you decide to jump ship and leave Murdock's employment and go freelance (on your own) and publish your personal website with Coffeecup.com because they are such nice people, and offer to host your first website for FREE

You will first of all have to persuade Murdock that the url yourname.com belongs to you and not him and if he agrees ask for it to be transferred from Murdockhosting.com to Coffeecup.com

So you have to go to the registrar Domainmonster.com and change the CNAME RECORDS to your yourname.coffeecup.com which you will have previously set up in your Coffeecup SDRIVE account.

Next ask your personal secretary (FTP) to send your entire index box to yourname.coffeecup.com, and hopefully 24 hours later your website will appear on the WWW in Coffeecups newspaper.

However if you wish to simplify matters, walk out of Murdockemporium with your index box under your arm and wave good by.

Set up your FREE Coffeecup SDRIVE account and purchase a new domainname (URL) directly from Coffeecup (ie) yournamefreelance.com , CC will do the rest for you 24 hours later it will be live on WWW

Next after its live ask your new personal secretary Denise Fiona Tina Peterson (Direct FTP) or VSD or HTML editor inbuilt ftp , to publish your website for you its should appear a few minutes later (or sack her)

Now your identical BUT NEW website will appear in WWW as yournamefreelance.com all you need to do is tell your Google webmasters account of the new website address and site map address, slowly but surely it will take over in search results from the old Murdock one

Don't forget Murdock with all his money paid someone for SEO (search engine optimisation) to get you No.1 ranking (ask in CC forum for help with SEO don't get suckered in to paying for it) good SEO is more expensive than us mere mortals can afford, cheap SEO isn't worth a $.

Nominet are shall we say the instigator of your domain name URL

Domainmonster or if bought throuch CC .......... needs filling in...... are the registrar

Coffeecup are now your hosting company life will be simpler

You own yournamefreelance.com

Your website address will actually be yourname.coffeecup.com

But the public will see yournamefreelance.com in search results and address bar

Your index box with all your hard work in will be in your own personal PC and of course you will have made a back up or two, but just in case CC will have also made a back up on their server.
