WAM is a disaster

Hello there.
I used web access manager to block the spammers from my website (I entered a couple of IP address)
But... now I discover that the access is FORBIDDEN to everybody!
I tried to uninstall the software but I was unsuccessful.
In addition, I tried to remove protection from Public_html folder in the appropriate window. At first it seems that everything is fine, then the profram doesn't save the removal, and I have to start all over again.

I don't know why this happens. Can anybody help me with this program? I am really desperate!

Thank you in advance

Hiya nicoletta,

There should be a help manual (try F1) that will help you set it up correctly. I haven't looked at it in a while so not sure how in depth it gets for the program, but if not then....

There are about 40+ articles here that I would think some of them would touch on what your issue is. May want to browse through those that pertain to you while you wait on others to reply to your post here. Good luck.

P.S. There is a post on how to remove it completely from your site if that's what you're wanting to do. But there may be others that help you set it up correctly.

WAM does work, and pretty good too! The PDF file Jo Ann mentioned is pretty in-depth and will tell you everything you need to know to set it up. I use it myself to protect an admin page on a customers website.

First, as with most CoffeeCup Software, make sure you run with admin rights. Right click the startup icon and select properties - compatability - run as administrator

When you run WAM select File/Create New Website Profile. Enter the website address and click the 'Check if I'm Compatible' button. If all is good, click next. Enter your username/password for that server. This will be the information you receive from your host. Check the box to 'Enable Passive Mode' as this usually works best. You can then 'Auto-Detect' your server Root.

Once this information is setup and saved you will be able to enter users and assign permissions. Click the 'Add User' button to add a user.

On the left should be a directory of the files and directories on your server. Simply select one, then check the users you want to have access to that directory. If you do not assign any users to a directory, everyone will have access to it. So, for the main site, do not select the Root and everyone should have access to it.

To remove WAM from your server you can do 2 things. The easiest is to select 'Tools/Remove Website Access Manager From Server'. If this does not work, for whatever reason, then log into your server with an FTP program or cPanel and manually delete the .htaccess files. This will remove ALL protection from your web site.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you still need more help.

I connect to my website via FTP cofee cup.
And I read the sign:
Connected, but could not open "public_html/". It may not exist or you don't have permission to open it with the protocol you are using.

What Am I supposed to do now?

Did you already try doing it through the program itself as mentioned above?

The easiest is to select 'Tools/Remove Website Access Manager From Server

That is the faster and more accurate way of doing it. This way if you have altered the .htaccess file in any way with other programs or means it won't delete those changes too.

If you have already tried that, and I do know it works as I did it accidentally a few weeks ago with my own server while trying to walk someone in through how to do it on the phone, then do the removal of the .htaccess file.

In Direct FTP you will need to go to the Top menu and in the View section, click on Hidden Files so that a check mark shows up. You may need to refresh the directory(ies) to get it to then show the hidden files. You should see the .htaccess file once you do that.

lol that's the login log from Direct FTP I'll assume? If so that's what it is, the log as you are loggin in and what it's detecting as you do. If you get connected, then you're set to go, if you're not getting connected, that's when it matters what that means :P

Is there a different question you're asking about for that log that I'm not understanding?

Actually it is the log in with Web Access Manager

I cannot find htaccess. file and I cannot delete them, even though I followed your directions. Coffee FTP keeps on saying that

Connected, but could not open "public_html/". It may not exist or you don't have permission to open it with the protocol you are using.
