Inconsistent Issues with WAM

Let me give you a little background on what we're trying to do and what's happening.

This is installed on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit O/S. The website files were either created in Dreamweaver or purely in HTML using Notepad.

First, I installed the trial version of WAM to make sure it's what we want to use. (NOTE: I had to reinstall. The first installation reporting having errors. We have a non-profit organization which we want to restrict access to. We will provide guest accounts that will expire after a period of time. The guest will have access to the entire main domain.

There is a member's subdomain which will, when completed, have a blog and other access areas for members only.

My site is hosted on (uh-oh!) GoDaddy. (Yes, I did read some of the issues with WAM and GoDaddy, specifcally regarding subdomains.

Here are my issues:

I created a guest account and have been using that for testing purposes. The guest account has a simple password ("guest"). I gave the guest account access to two folders on the site. When I try to access the site's index.html page, I cannot log in. When I try to access either one of the folders directly, I'm prompted for a username and password and get immediate access. Closing the browser, even when bookmarking a page within that folder, causes me to re-authenticate which is exactly what I want to do.

When I created the guest account and gave that account access to the two folders, no other access to the site was given to Administrator.

I decided I wanted to give Administrator full rights to the site (this is for testing purposes only and I will be creating an account for both my husband and me for full access to the site) by selecting the root folder. I uploaded the change to the server.

When I launch the site, I enter the administrator logon and password and have access.

ISSUE: After I do that, I go to one of the pages that's contained in a folder that was previously given guest access and am prompted for my logon and password. At first, after 3 or 4 tries, I could gain access but today I cannot. I can still log into the primary account but can no longer access either of the two folders that Guest was given access to.

ISSUE: When I was "playing" with WAM to understand how it functions, I chose to remove it from the server. Even after removing it from the server through the application, I had to log into my GoDaddy site and manually remove the .htaccess and .htpasswd files from the server because I was still getting prompted for a logon and password.

ISSUE: I created a subdomain for testing purposes. Once the subdomain was created, I tested the primary site. I was NOT prompted for a username\password. I was able to access the entire site freely.

I have not yet tried to add security to the subdomain yet but I need to get these other issues resolved and make sure that this application will do for me what I want it to do.

I realise this is rather lengthy however, I want to make sure that you understand what I did and when I did it. Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks!
Carol

I would really need to see your HDB file to have a better understanding on what is going on. Open a support ticket and send us your HDB file and we will look into this for you.

Also note, Godaddy takes 1-2 hours to cache an htaccess file, so during that time, things may not work 100% correctly.

Thanks Scott. I appreciate your quick response on a Sunday afternoon. :) I'll open the ticket.

I ended up deleting the subdomain. It's not required now and I'll deal with that down the road at a later time.

In the meantime, I did get it to work with giving everyone access to the site and the guest account is set with an expiration date. That'll do until we get this revolved.
