Specifying the width of form elements

According to the online documentation, width of a form element can be specified in pixels or as a percentage of the width of the form container. But I can only ever see the choice of width in percentages. How can I get the option to use a specific width in pixels ?

I think this is connected with the difference between standard and responsive forms, but where can I specify which type I want ?

Thanks.

You can specify the form width in pixels but each of the elements will use percent.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks for that, Eric, but in the Help documentation I find :

Width
Configures the width of an element in pixels or as a percentage of the width of the form container.

That’s why I’m looking where I can configure the width of an element in pixels.

And what about the type of form, standard or responsive. Where and how do I specify that I want my form to be standard ?

I read that as the form builder does the adjustment to the elements according to the form width. All elements are configured by percent. When you use a non responsive theme the form builder will fix the form elements width according to the form width you set .
To have a standard non responsive form select the default theme form "Themes".

That isn’t how I read it, Eric.

I understand it to mean that the width can be specified in one of two ways, in pixels or as a percentage of the form width, and that’s not correct, is it ?

At best it’s ambiguous, but I think that’s being generous. In fact, I think it’s wrong and misleading and should be corrected.

And for the thing about standard or responsive, according to you it comes automatically when you select a theme. Is that right ? But what if I don’t select a theme, but just start creating a form ? Am I making a standard form or a responsive form ? There’s no way to find out, is there ? Or maybe there is, but I can’t find it.

It would be really useful to have in the Form Options a box to clearly show the form type.

You may find these comments a bit silly, but that’s because you’re an expert with lots of experience using this product. But when you come to it for the first time errors, ambiguities, and omissions like this can cause significant problems.

You can tell if your form is a responsive form by looking on the "Form Options" tab.
If you have the ability to set the 'Max Width" then your working with a responsive form.:) The "Default - Responsive" theme is the theme that the form builder loads on start up. You would have to pick the "Default" theme from the theme selector to make it non responsive thus removing the Max Width. Ultimately you can adjust anything you want outside the formbuilder after export. I do this a lot to make my forms fit my needs.

I’ve looked at the current form I’m working on and in the Form Options I see a box for Form Width as a % and a box for Max Width as px. So from what you say, that means it’s responsive.

So I pulled up the default standard theme and applied it. Now I see only Form Width as px. That’s what I wanted.

Thanks for the tip, but I still think it could so easily be made very clear by showing “standard” or “responsive” somewhere at the top of the Form Options.

Hit crtl + f
Now tick the "Show responsive theme message".
This will pop when you select a responsive theme. I think all are labeled as responsive but this may be good if you make your own themes. You can turn it off from within the pop up.;)
