I apologize in advance if this has been covered, I did a search and did not find any related posts.

I have been setting the name values as suggested in the help file, ie text field with label "Home Phone" would be named "home_phone" and so on. I am wondering if/when this is really necessary as the form results I'm receiving are showing the input Label value along with the response ie "Home Phone: 555-1212" as opposed to "home_phone: 555-1212". If I can safely leave the name values with their default setting without affecting the form results, life would be that much easier.

Yes you can leave the defaults, but the main reason you'd want to change them is to make them recognizable if you need to reference them in another area such as the response email or reply etc.

In other words, seeing a bunch of labels like:

label1
label2
label3

Will make it hard to know which one of them is a Name or Address or etc.

Hope that helps :)

Call me slow, but... I am confused... :P

Did you see the screen cap I attached? My form results are being received with the input label value followed by the users response, which is great - makes it nice and clear. I'm just not understanding where the "name" values come in to play, or where I might even see them in a form response?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you Troy so let me see if I'm clear here on what you're saying. So here's what I understand about the label and name fields:

Label: This is what you want the form to show in the reply or results.

Name: This is the label given to the form field that the program uses to identify the element so it adds the correct information to the reply and results.

The Name field would be the one you put the home_phone in as that tells the program the name of the field to read to get the information such as the label from:

The Label field would be the one you put the Home Phone in which would show on the results and reply or anywhere else you include that field name to be used.

If you want to use that field in let's say the Subject line of your email you would enter in the subject section like you see below in the screenshot

You can pull these tags (no need to memorize them) and enter them anywhere into the Subect or even the body of the email by placing your cursor where you want to enter it and using the pulldown menu as shown below to select the name label you want to use and it will enter it in there. You can do more than one in a row to create any type of layout you want your results to show in ect.

Hope that helps explain why the Name labels should be named for what they are such as the home_phone so that you can recognize what they are in that drop down list for use :)

P.S. If you choose to use your own setup for results, be sure to remove the [results] at the end of your emails so it doesn't duplicate them :)

Ok, clear as mud. Thanks Jo Ann. I'm kidding, I get it now. I wasn't really understanding the reasoning behind using a "name value" when my results were being displayed using the "label value". I hadn't played around too much with the settings you show in your screenshots, a picture is worth a thousand words so now it makes sense. Thanks!

You're quite welcome and no worries, I was in your shoes at one point too lol. I was actually not sure if that feature was there in this version until I looked today. It used to be in the flash version so I assumed it was in this one too :) Enjoy!
