Form Builder not displaying properly.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. I downloaded and updated to the latest build today (2.1.4652) and once it went through the usual drama of uninstalling the previous version (which was working fine) and replacing it with this one, the view in the attachment is what I get.

This is how WFB looks regardless of whether I load an existing project or not. With a project loaded, preview is blank as well so it seems as if it doesn't load the project even though there is no apparent error.

I uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled - no change. I installed the previous version and it too displays like this now so perhaps some system file was overwritten or otherwise munted. Whatever has happened, it has broken things here.

Any ideas? (And yes, I've tried compatibility mode and running as administrator and all those things that should never be needed and wouldn't help anyway).

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with all updates.

Regards, Dave.

I had some issues earlier that would go away and I had some files that would update and the reinstall wouldn't delete them so I did a search for webform builder on my pc and hand deleted all the left over files after uninstall then ran cc cleaner.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

So no comment from CC tech support? This has stopped my development and I need to get it sorted. I've tried clearing house of all things web form builder and reinstalling older builds to no avail; all show as the attachment. Somebody in the tech department there must know what is happening, or have at least an idea or suspicion. I have no doubt it is something on my computer and I'm the only one on the planet that has this issue but I'm not about to format and reinstall only to be told after the fact that I need this file or that update to make it work.

I'll put this image inline to make it easier to see. The GUI is missing all of its interface except for three buttons which do not work. The error dialog happens when I click on any of the file menu icons and the gist of it is:

Unhandled exception has occurred. If you click continue, the application will ignore the error and attempt to continue. If you click close, it will close etc.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Clicking the details button reveals the exception message text:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at FormBuilder.FormMain.fileToolStripMenuItem_DropDownOpening(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDownItem.OnDropDownShow(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripMenuItem.OnDropDownShow(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDownItem.ShowDropDownInternal()

etc. etc. There is quite a bit of it with loaded modules and memory references etc. so it must be useful to someone. If there is a log file of the error then tell me where it is and I'll send it if required.

Any ideas anyone?

I would suggest is that you report this to CC rather than just here on the forums. Although the staff of CC does peruse the forums, it's not guaranteed that they will see every post that is attempting to report a bug. Always best to put in a support topic to make sure they get the information and can confirm the bug or help you work out what's possibly wrong on your end. Good luck on it. :)

Dave, why do you always post these issues in the forums instead of opening a support ticket? Seems to be a reoccurring theme and then you get upset when you do not get a reply. We do our best to monitor the forums, but if you need help right away, support tickets are the way to go. Posting here is more of a way to ask other users for help.

What you are describing sounds like a bad install. What I would like you to first do is uninstall the version you have now and then download the software again from our website. To download any registered software or to download any free upgrades, please go to My Products from within your account. Once the software list appears, click the "download" button next to the software you wish to install.

Hopefully this has fixed your issue. If it does not, then we need to get our hands a bit more dirty.

Follow these steps:

1. Uninstall the software.

2. You will need to visit this site (http://www.ccleaner.com/), and download the free version by following the download links, then install it onto your computer. Now you will need to run the application and select the Registry tool on the left, then scan for issues. Next you will need to click "Fix selected issues" and do not back up the changes to the registry. Then click on the option to fix all selected issues.

3. Reboot

4. Repeat step 2 to make sure all issues were fixed. If new issues were found, reboot one more time.

Now we need to make sure .NET is installed:

1. Uninstall all versions of .NET from highest version to lowest version.

2. Reboot

3. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21 and download dotNetFx35setup.exe and install it.

4. Reboot.

Now we are going to clear out all Windows Temp files:

Windows XP: Go to the Start Menu > Run and type %TEMP% and hit enter. I want you to select all the files and delete them. You may get a warning on one or two files that you cannot delete them, but that is ok.

Windows Vista/7: Go to the Start Menu and in the white box type %TEMP% and hit enter. I want you to select all the files and delete them. You may get a warning on one or two files that you cannot delete them, but that is ok.

Now it's time to re-install the software

1. To download any registered software or to download any free upgrades, please go to My Products from within your account. Once the software list appears, click the "download" button next to the software you wish to install.

2. Install Web Form Builder

With any luck, you should now be good to go! :)

Thanks for this info... just had the same message appear after updating to latest version. Will save having to open a support ticket!
