I've thought about this topic quite a bit as well.  Some are showing off proud works and others are shameless plugs.  Either way, I think it makes a big difference if the one using the links has more involvement in the community.  There's been several obvious spammers who throw in a "nice info, thanks" and leaves the advertising sig. The majority of us are a different story though.
 If I had any links in my signature, it would've been to promote my work, which has nothing to do with CoffeeCup or even showing off what I've done.  I love to help people, but if anyone actually saw how poor I am in creativity & design, it would be a bad representation of CoffeeCup Software use.  Unless, of course, it were advertised as "how not to make a website."  
 
Hey, I'm workin' close to 3000 posts.  I forget how long we've all been around in the forums, but I've slowed down a lot lately.  I hope to get more time in on helping others out (and help maintaining the forums).  You better slow down there, Spinny.  What's taken us years, you'll reach in a few months.
