Hi everyone! Happy Friday! :D

Right now the only microphone I have for my computer is on a headset. The headset is good, as far as quality sound, but it freaking hurts my ears! So I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions/recommendations for a stand alone pc microphone. I was thinking I wanted one that's got a little stand so I can set it on my desk, but maybe not - I might want one that fits OVER my ear & is very light weight.

Does anyone currently have/use a microphone that fits over the ear & is lightweight & is really good? :D My max price would be like $50. And I'm not wild about wireless b/c I'm always fearful of a lag or interference - HOWEVER if someone can recommend a wireless over the ear mic that costs $50 or less, I'd love to know.

Thanks again....and I'm gonna get cheesy again - but I really do appreciate all the help, info., advice, tips, etc., that I've gotten here in this forum. Even though this isn't a general tech forum, it's the darn best one I know of!

Luv y'all!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D

Admit it, you don't like how the headset messes up your hair. :D

So . . . your mic headset, also had ear monitors?
I use a mic headset, that I put around my neck instead of on my head, the mic arm is very flexible so I can position it in front of my mouth. It's very comfortable. However, for sound quality I went with a Shure mic, a bit more then $50.

If it is just bad hair that you don't like and you have Bluetooth take a look at Motorola's S10-HD it fits over the neck (under the hair) and is really lightweight.

If you are really looking for a desktop mic most mics will work fine if you don't have much background noise and the room is small.

Well I'll chime in although I'm not quite sure what you're using the headset for to start with. I'm a gamer, and I can tell you one thing for 100% sure. Echoing really sucks when people have to listen to themselves rebounding back through your speakers when you're not using a headset. Years ago a desktop mic was the only thing available, and I'm sure there's some really nice ones out there, but I am very sure that to get one that will stop that from happening you're going to spend a whole lot more than $50 because it would have to be unidirectional so it would only pick up the sounds from straight in front of it rather than all the things around it that a typical directional mic would do.

Personally I would look around for a nice comfy headset that doesn't hurt your ears. I hate the bad hair too, but being more limited with only one ear to work with it's hard to find comfy ones for myself. Those of you with 2 ears to deal with have an awesome variety of headsets to work with, take a look around at your local electronics store such as Best Buy or Radio Shack and you'll see a very good variety of them that are much more comfy. Stay away from the ones that have the leather/plastic big fat cushions on them unless you're able to try them on. Those are usually the culprits that are too tight on the head and ears. Find a good foam pieced one and you should be fine.

Noise reduction is the main culprit to watch for on desktop mics though if you're really seriously bound to go that way. Be sure it will not pick up your speaker sounds. There is nothing more irritating than trying to have a conversation with someone and ending up with a conversation with yourself because it's echoing back through the other persons speakers lol.

Thanks everyone for your input :)

Jo Ann, yes, you're so right about the echo thing. I hadn't really thought of that. A headset would be ideal for me - I really don't mind headset hair LOL! The headset I have came free when I bought my computer. It's a wired headset and it's tiny, seems like it's made more for a child. It's an HP computer/headset. The sound quality is great, but the fit is bad.

If I get a headset I don't mind paying more than $50, especially b/c I would want a wireless headset. I did try on a couple of different ones that I bought at a store - office max or something - and they all hurt! So I returned them. They weren't wireless though.

So I guess I'll do some research on wireless headsets, since ultimately that would be the best bet for me.

Thanks again everyone....

and if anyone has any recommendations for a good wireless headset, I'd love to know :)
