We're a non-profit (501c-3) and LOVE our CC software which we use everyday. Of course, I'd love to get it for free, but I know you CC folks aren't a non-profit and also have to eat in order to keep brewing up your great stuff.

Howz about marketing a "Non-Profit" package that includes the most usefull basic stuff that volunteers and accidental webmasters can easily use to put together and manage a great non-profit webpage: Visual Site Designer, Web Form Builder, Photo Gallery, and Web Calendar, and RSS News Flash - and of course, the free stuff from "Bob and Larry" - in a single package for a fair price, then offer a non-profit rebate for submitting the proper verification. Just a thought!:P

No. I don't understand ANYTHING they do.

1- No macs are to be connected to the network.
2- We just updated from IE6 to IE7 (on some, but not all computers) in January.
3- Firefox is not allowed (see #2).
4- They tell us "you cannot install any program we have not approved", yet send us links saying "This is great!" and it is for downloading an unapproved program.

Lowell, those people who call the shots on that should be sacked! They are not qualified to make decisions about software. Upgrading from IE6 to IE7 - Ha! They hold back the development by YEARS applying that policy.

And then when they have been ousted out of their seats, you should apply for their job!

My thoughts:

I love the package, but would like to have an option to choose CCHTML instead of VSD. For most teachers, VSD is great, but not for someone who prefers HTML. The package includes most of the tools a school webmaster would need.

That being said, I wish I could convince my school system to take advantage of it. The school system will not allow ANY school site to be created with any thing other than Dreamweaver. I had to get special permission to use CCHTML as a teaching tool in my classroom, and was forced to promise that we would not use it to edit/create any official school pages. If I do, they will block it's usage on school networked computers.

It all comes down to support when there are problems or the developer using a non-standard software leaves. On limited budgets, you have to support very few products with limted resources. If every teacher used a different product (an exaggeration), how many tech's would have to be hired to support it? If every browser is allowed, how much addtional support time would be needed when something doesn't work on a specific browser or specific version of a browser?

I would agree they are being very restrictive but there is a reason. Support and the cost of it.

I am sure i will get the wrath of hell over the above comments so my armor suit is standing by..

I used to be the support person at the school where I was working, and I see your logic. But when we upgraded our PCs, we were sent on a course or two to become familiar with the intricacies of the new versions. Really, upgrading to a browser version which is nearly two versions behind the current one... :|
