Can we just have posts like this...

Alan,

After a time all of these kinds of posts drift quietly into the archive for applesauce and trouble you no more. I think the moderators try to limit actual thread deletions unless really necessary.

Though the bot-created threads should be deleted. A few had been left with the the spam links removed, but often a bot will start a thread with a question and later on a post is made by a bot which answers the previous bot post with a spam link. It would just be nicer if the original spambot posts are removed all together to prevent the follow-up spam postings.

Cary,

We can and do often remove duplicate posts, but since the bio-memory is not always reliable - at least my version is not :) - we sometimes miss duplicates.

As for the spam bots, the first questions frequently looks real, and we don't want to delete the first message for a real new person. Cliff especially wants to be nice to potential new members, and that is a very good thing. Also, I have found that since people have other lives the TWO spam bot messages are posted while the forum members are not active.

Even if we had a perfect way to detect a spam bot posted message, the spammers would find a way around to still post messages.

If you find a message that you think is spam, you can send a message to one of the senior advisers or to Scott, and it will get checked.

Cliff is soooo nice! :D
Yes, I am slow to report spam. When I first started in this forum a few years back, I asked some questions that were seen as 'spammy'. I remember someone posting that they wanted me banned for asking 'stupid questions' and for posting links to examples from other software when asking "can this be done with CoffeeCup software?" and then providing an example link.

To be honest, If I would have been banned, I would not be here now, nor would I have purchased so much of the coffeecup line-up of software. It's because of CoffeeCup Software and their patient nature that I am employed today as a full time Webmaster. Maybe I'm too nice about reporting/banning, but this is one thing I'd rather be wrong about more often than right.

Don't get me wrong, when I see multiple posting from obvious spammers. I will make sure it gets reported. I just won't do it on the very first posting from a new user or guest, just in case it's a valid question being asked the wrong way, like I did myself.

Cliff,

It is a very good thing that there are nice people in this world. If everyone were mean, the entire world would be just as mean.

It is because of you that I am careful as to what I do. If you hadn't posted your message about your first post, I might have been very guilty of doing just what happened to you.

You and your posts have made me a better person.

Thank you for being here.
