I am trying to submit site map to google through sitmapper. I am using VSD to design my website. I have uploaded sitemap.xml file to my public_html file on server successfully. Although, I'm not sure what my Url is for this file. Can anyone please explain what I need to do. Do I need to create a file in VSD and upload from there? If yes. How?

Dustin,

You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. No need to display your email address for any spammers to use.

Do you have a link to the site? Someone may be able to locate the file for you.

Without any changes, I suspect that you will find the file at www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml or maybe in a folder named files.

Did you upload the file using the site-mapper program?

Dusty,

I found your xml file, but it is located at http://www.diyhowdoi.com/sitemap.html which is a wrong extension.

Do you have an FTP program? If not, CoffeeCup has a free FTP program, or you can visit http://www.download.com and search for a program. I have used Filezilla FTP and like it.

With an FTP program, navigate to http://www.diyhowdoi.com/sitemap.html and rename the file to sitemap.xml and use http://www.diyhowdoi.com/sitemap.xml as the location to use when you submit to Google. You can submit via the sitemapper program, or you can submit via Google.

Hope this helps.

Billr,

thank you! I will try it.

When I uploaded to server from sitemapper it uploaded both sitemap.html and sitemap.xml files. Not sure why.
thanks again. Maybe I will try to delete files in my server and upload with sitemapper again.

Hey Billr,

Thought you and others would want to know what my problem was.
When submiting to google from coffeecup, there is an example under the form line to enter http://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
that says to enter www. before your url this did not work for me. I had to enter without www.

Thanks for your help.

Dustin,

That is interesting. I have been submitting sites by copying the URL from the browser and pasting it into the box. These sites all have www in the URL.

Dustin,

The html file is for you to use on your site, and the xml file is for Google to use when the Google bot checks for changes.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
