Using flex in SDV3

Hello all,
Started with SD3 and have a question about using flex. Ok I see we no longer use rows and have to add col like in rsd. I'm setting a test for 3 pics and if right doing this way:
Add Container than add container and add 3 pics elements to it set container to flex , column, no wrap, start=center, Justify= Flex start for 1st Break Point. As I go to next BP set col to row etc. As done in RSD correct?
Doing this I am able to have it work good on Mozzila, Chrome and partly on IE11 - IE 11 is ok until I go to past 1024 px than it goes more to the right?? Push back and back to center on all 3 pics.
Is there something I have to do to make IE11 not do this?
Hopefully I am not confusing anyone.

Thanks in advance.

The problem is ie11 only has partial support with flex box as there are many known bugs. You could upload your page so we could see the problem? Thanks Phil

Ray, in SD3 you don't use rows either, just containers. If you want to use flex, you will not be able to set a row to display flex, but you can with containers.

I know that flex is not completely supported by IE 11, but I ask myself how long we are supposed to design for obsolete browsers. ;) But inline block with side margins to auto will help to position images horizontally in a row.

Hello Phil - Happy New Year to you and your family!

Okay thanks that is what I was thinking but tomorrow I will make a page with the flex that I am working on and upload it. Before I go any further further with SDV3 I want to make sure I'm doing it the correct way if not will just change that site instead to RFF- 2.5 as I can do the flex ok and am sure RFF will be around for a long time yet just have to use the row and columns.

Hello Inger just saw ur reply also thanks.
I will try the inline block with side margins set to auto tomorrow first.
Question: I don't have to actually worry about working that new grid thing in V3 if I don't want to ??? Seems to be something I may not need.

Flex is a good at positioning items but sucks as a layout tool. 33.3333 % for layout of 3 things across a row ??? Makes my brain hurt every time. Use either Grid for layout or the old Row and Columns.

Row and Columns for Bootstrap and Foundation in SD3 are still there. You make a container and select row for the layout option. You then put a container in that row and select the correct column choices for the different breakpoints.

Quite honestly though, Grid is the "now" and more delightful to use. I think one should send the people with browsers that do not support Grid to a simple old row and columns designed landing page (with flex positioning) with your phone, email and fax.

Just a thought.....

(Might also check the new support for ms-grid by autoprefixer.....wish Coffeecup would add that as a option in the preferences.)
Bootstrap 5 CSS Grid.

I've gotten to the point where I don't even consider IE...it doesn't support a lot of stuff and it has been replaced by Edge..which still doesn't support a lot of things and that is why they are "retooling" it and will base it off of the same platform that runs Chrome https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-confi … -chromium/

I don' know the answer until it's fixed as it seems it is a toss-up as to what works best as an alternative fallback.

Sounds like good news, Mark. Then we might eventually get something that is working! :)

Hi Mark just like I have been told about IE and flex oh well read what u sent looks good hope it does happen I'm still Win 7 and have no desire to change.

Question: I'm rethinking and wondering if good idea to actually use SDV3 now and not worry about how it may not be perfect with Flex in IE?? I do like not having rows and columns in V3.
Have many here made the actual switch yet for design of sites using V3??
