Sharing components between users

As it was said yesterday in one of the discussions here, sharing components between users has not been implemented yet.
So, while waiting for that, here is an alternative way of sharing:
Create a component of what you want to share.
Add it to an otherwise empty page.
If there are instructions to go along with this, add them as a paragraph on that page,
Then link the source file to the page.

This can be zipped and saved to dropbox, or, as I have done here, upload it. My IMNSHO improved responsive menu for Bootstrap4 is up for grabs, see one of the menu items for the source file.

Hello Inger, That is kind of you to do this for all on CC, I must of done something dumb  I was able to download it save on desktop BUT it saves as a .RSD (1.5) and when it tries to open it cannot not, so I am thinking it is for .RSD (2.0) only or can it be added to CFF??? I see it is BS-4 menu so that cannot open in RSD (1.5) BUT it still downloaded and saves as .RSD (1.5) file ??????

No Inger do not worry about it for me, I was just wondering if I did something wrong I started with only RSD 1.5 and now have been using RFF for our Travel site, at this point I am not using RBB so don't need it for that. You have been very busy and have gone out of your way helping, time for a break or mini-vacation :D

Thanks for ALL the help you have given me.

Hi Inger

What do you mean "link to source file"? How do I do that?

You click on the link, and then you can download the source file for the menu, if you like. It was made in RSD2, so obviously it has to be opened in the same app.

Or did you mean how to create that link? Upload the souce file to your server, and make a link to it from the page where you tell about it.

There is an easier way, and its already built into RSD 2 beta,

After your component is created, export it. You will need to be signed into your CC account, and may or may not need to have the free website thing.

The component is exported as a .cccomp file, along with .png file to this folder in windows: c/users/username/appdata/roaming/responsive site designer beta/components/foundation/category

Where username is your username for your pc login, and category is the category you give your component when you export it. And foundation is the framework I am using. Bootstrap would be in that folder in windows.

Now, all you have to do it publish a website with that png, with a link to the *.cccomp file - like here: http://superphunthyme.coffeecup.com/index.html
The use would download the file, then in RSD under file, import the library component.

The .png file is small, its designed to be used in the editor. So if you wanted a fancy site to share components, you would need to do some screen shots, or ask CCP to make bigger image files. This sound more complicated, but it means an earier way to add many components to one page for viewing previews.

Thanks, Bill. I prefer doing it my way, so that people can see how those components behave at different screen sizes.

There are some more components now, all menus so far, but that may change.
