That is very strange. Uploading should never take hours. I have a test shop with over 800 items and a new upload never takes over 15 minutes. After you upload once, only changes are sent to the server. However without seeing your shop online, I really cannot advise you what the issue is.

John, a few days ago I messed up my web store twice and had to re-load it. I have a number of categories so I turned off all the publish category icons. I then clicked on a few categories to start with and published them. Once the partial store uploaded I added a few more categories and so on until the whole store was loaded. I have more than 400 items so it's getting fairly big. Also, our WiFi isn't the best. As I add more items for sale, it quickly loads with no problem. 3.5 is great!

Before I started re-loading I backed up my store on a flash drive.

worked perfectly this time...
i guess i messed up last time...

When we download the latest version, and we have a customized shop with css will it override our css changes, or will all be well? ( I don't want our existing shop to be visually different!)

Also, will it delete our populated authorize / paypal / google checkout information?

Yes, but the old themes created for v3.1 are not compatible with v3.5. Think of the themes as mini-applications and as Shopping Cart Creator is updated, so are these themes.

So, yes, you will need to download the updated themes and unfortunately this means that your custom changes will be lost. The good news is once Shopping Cart Designer is released, you will no longer have to worry about this situation anymore.

The update will preserve all your merchant account settings.

This has not been added to version 3.5. We are still discussing how to implement this functionality in either the basic or pro version.

Is there a character or other size limit to the extra pages we can add to our site?

The only limit is that you can add a maximum of 5 pages.

When is Shopping Cart Designer expected to be released?

I read somewhere you can edit sct files, re-zip and add back to themes. But it didn't show up for me in my themes?
