downloaded the trial ,but i don't see an option to do tax by State. we only charge tax for the state where we are located, and not other states, in zen cart which i'm using now you have that option and it must be put in this as well or many people can't use it, until they come up with an tax for online sales.

Right now we do not have that as a feature but you will see it in a future update of the software.

If ZenCart is up and running, why in the world would you want to switch over? The hard part is done. Adding inventory is easy and you don't have to reupload everything each time. And the features are rich.

Just curious.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Well have ever templated zen cart to match your website it's a long process.and now I'm building a new site with different products.Been waiting for Zencart new 1.4 but they never give any clue when it will be out and I don't think it will be any time soon. So I was looking for something with a Quicker template system. I need to have This other site up soon.

I was quite enthusiastic about trying out this quick "Up and Running" Shopping Cart Software until I saw the issue with State taxes.

Hey Development! Did no one tell that it's the LAW for internet merchants to charge tax at the State level? Without this, there are state attorney generals who can hire a temp to Google for the CoffeeCup banners on active shopping carts, and have their OWN shopping spree of legal action lawsuits...

Come on folks, at least slip the logic or a hook in there for us to do a simple look up list on State field of the shipping address or Zip Code and make ourselves legal!!! It's not rocket science.

Waiting for this "feature." <sigh!>

Dan

ps. I'd consider this is a "HOT FIX" item, not a future version feature.

There are a lot of professional features that we did not add to this version that would have been helpful for the design community. This was deliberate; to set Shopping Cart Creator apart from the other Web shop software out there, we wanted to keep it as straightforward, easy to use, and fast as possible.

But since we’re fully aware of the more advanced requirements, a "professional" version of Shopping Cart Creator has always been on our product roadmap. Based upon your feedback, however, we will now look into adding this feature to a future release of this version of Shopping Cart Creator instead. If we still do a “pro" version, the deal will be sweet, so either way it’s safe to go with this version. After all, the more users we have and the more feedback we get, the better we can make Shopping Cart Creator!

Thanks for your reply Scott,

I'd love to use this software, I'm a real fan and current user of several CoffeeCup products.

Can't speak for others, but for State of Washington residents, Shopping Cart Creator can not be used for creating even small commerce sites until this one issue is fixed. Otherwise any shopping cart I publish here is in violation of State law and totally illegal. I'm not a big enough fan to pay the hefty fine I could encounter for using the product.

Where the heck were your Beta testers located that they never pointed this out?

My high hopes are dashed (for now)...

Hey! I do appreciate that you read my feedback and are now thinking you will add this feature to the core product, not just to Shopping Cart Professional. Please do let us know when the ability to charge tax by State becomes available because I'd LOVE to use this product.

...and if an eager developer wants a Beta tester for this new feature, you've got my contact info!

We are trying to keep this Tax function as simple and easy to use as possible. What would be the minimum setup you would want to see? Please keep in mind that our software is easy to use and we want to keep the flow of all functions easy to use.

Here is our idea. In the software have a way to define a tax % based on state, country or province and how to apply the tax to the order. You can then add as many as you like. This would have countries that have 2 taxes as well.

Now in your cart, on the check out page allow the customer to select a shipping location. Based on their input, that will be the tax applied.

How would something like that work for everyone?

Scott,

Here in South Carolina, we have a state tax and a county tax. I have seen some sites that recognize my zip code, and offer the option to select one of the three counties that overlap that zip code.

We also have some cities that are starting to tax but thus far, only restaurants.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
