Product detail options

I'm in a bit of a bind. I've built out a shopping cart for my customer and now we're imputing product details. They are selling ice cream online shipped in dry ice. I need to set up a product that offers 4 pints where the customer chooses from 8 flavors for each pint - they can customize their 4 pints. And... here's the problem, they want to offer 6 pints too. Well... the CC shopping cart won't allow more than 5 options. Ack!

I have put a ticket into support and received this answer...

Thanks for your message! I'm sorry but at the moment is not possible to add more than five label options. At the begging they were only two and our developers increase these number due to customer petitions. I do apologize for the inconvenience. However, I will pass along your message to our developers so they are aware of your suggestion, and maybe they can do something for a future version.

Does anyone have a workaround? Having only 5 options is not "an option" for my client. I will have to start from scratch with a new shopping cart. And I really like the CC cart. Please help!

I'm not going to use ice cream as an example Mary, otherwise I'll become distracted. :)

Take the example of someone selling different coloured garments in several different sizes. You'd have to use the options constructively, i.e. black garment/size small, red garment/size large etc. Apart from doing it that way there is no real alternative with shopping cart creator. Its structure has to have some limitations, otherwise it would become overwhelmed.

Hi Mary
Is possible you could create say 4 products per type of ice cream

eg xyz Ice cream 2 pint size
xyz ice cream 4 pint size
xyz ice cream 6 pint size
xyz ice cream 8 pint size etc

then use the options for the flaours????
jjust a thought

This sounds like a job for Web Form Builder maybe? I know this will end up being a little more work than necessary since it will entail 2 different media for 1 order between the order itself and an email message, and it's not real viable if this company does major volumes of business and would have a hard time keeping their customer info together but... here's my thoughts on a possible option since the SCC is definitely not going to work for you any other way that I can think of.

Create a form in Web Form Builder, add your flavor choices to this form and have them do their setup that way with either a number of drop down lists where they choose each flavor from the list on X number of dropdowns, 1 dropdown for each choice, or with check boxes to select their flavors. I would suggest the Dropdown lists as they are more controlable than the checkboxes are.

Insert this form using the HTML insertion setup in the Details area of each Pint Group (4 pts, 6 pts, etc.). This email gets sent to the same person that handles the order and they match them up together when the order is recieved from PayPal and you now have choices.
Be sure to have the form return to the same page it is on, so that it returns right to that particular item page so they can now purchase it. Tell them to make their choices first and submit, then to do their purchase so the info flows through more smoothly (going back to a page from PayPal is not as easy as from a form).

Albeit it's not a perfect solution, and has a tendency to get confusing if it's a high volume business, but it's a possible solution that would still allow you to use SCC.

Hi Mary
My previous post may not be the right workaround thinking more about it.
Perhaps you create the ice cream product ie
xyz ice cream 4 pint
xyz ice cream 6 pint
then create 8 products to represent each of the flavours setting a zero price ( if allowed) or a small charge.
The user selects a 6 pint ice cream then selects 6 of the 8 flavours or could even select ony say 3 flavours but wants 2 of each.
If zero price is not allowed charge say £0.10 per flavour.
to overcome zero price.
So instead of the 6 pint pack being say £6.00 it could be £5.40. plus 6x £0.10 to make up the £6.00
just another possibility
