I'm the "payment" option - how to...
I'm finally getting around to posting a cart I created to the web... it never did upload using the automatic function BTW... ["FAILED WHILE TRYING TO CONNECT. Couldn't connect to server. There was a problem connecting to your host or proxy. Please check your server settings and try again. If you are sure you have entered the correct information, please contact your network administrator or the server administrator."] Tried this with two different servers, same result... so I just did the same steps manually... onward!
I'm planning a major move, and am selling much of what I own (household items, farm equipment, tons more) and since most people who'll see the cart are local folks, I'm expecting that they'll come out and pick up their items/pay me in person. Is there a tweak that I can do to the cart to have processed purchases e-mailed to me instead of some payment company option? For those items I have to ship, I'll have to figure out shipping and handling costs on a case-by-case basis after I see what each person has purchased (yeah, watch someone want me to ship the king-sized select number bed! <G>).
And per an earlier e-mail, I had wanted to use the OPTIONAL FIELD to make life easier for me to create and list the condition of books I'm selling (a few hundred books - e.g., New, Very Good, Good, Fair, Readable, etc.) -- however, I see that that's an end-user optional field only ;-) Perhaps in future versions there can be a cart-owner OPTIONAL FIELD as well!
And since I'm having to upload the cart files manually (synching them using the FTP program), and words of caution for things to do or avoid?
Thanks for any help you might offer with the two questions above.

There are 2 options (that I'm aware of) to have an order "e-mailed to you/sans-payment"...
The first would work for folks using an e-mail program on their computer "Outlook, Outlook Express, Etc...) but probably NOT for users of GMAIL. After filling their order out, instead of pressing the process/pay now button, they can select 'send page by e-mail' from the file menu of their browser.
The second option would work best for those with GMAIL/Faxes. After filling their order out, instead of pressing the process/pay now button, they can select 'print' from the file menu, and choose the 'print to file' option. Once they name it, it will create a PDF that they can attach to e-mail or print to fax to you.

Thanks for the ideas re: payments :-)
I do have an issue with this, though... the site lists PayPal as a payment, and even though it's not selected in the setup, it still appears on the site... I'm not sure how to get rid of that and only have the button e-mail the order to me?
Though I might use PayPal, if that payment method is needed I'll send each buyer an invoice from PayPal to initiate the payment (as mentioned above, I need to individually calculate shipping and handling - if there is any S&H).
How do I stop "PayPal" (or any other payment processor) from re-appearing on my checkout page? Ideally I'd like the purchase button to send the order to me.
Thx

Here's my workaround for this shipping problem: I just have a 'special shipping' option for people to select if shipping is 'express' or overseas, etc., when they check out. It shows up as $0. I tell them upfront, that I will figure their special shipping costs, and send them a PayPal Invoice for the balance of the shipping/handling they request. So, they pay one invoice for the merchandise, and expect another PayPal Invoice for the shipping, after I know what that will be. Works fine with my customers. Since Paypal has a no-cost refund policy, if the special shipping turns out to be a deal breaker, I can just refund the order, and we're all happy again. (Haven't had to do this, but I'm ready if and when.)
Thanks, Tim, for that suggestion.
I'm trying to figure out how to remove *all* pay processing options, as most people will be picking their items up and paying for them at that time. I still need the "cart" checkout process so that items can be 'reserved' and removed from the site pending payment/pickup.
I wish there was an option to send the cart content to an e-mail of one's choice, rather than to a payment processor. I can write something on the cart page asking folks to print the final cart info and send it to me manually, but someone's bound to hit the darned PayPal button that keeps showing up (and then there's PayPal's associated fees). And until the sale is "processed" then none of the backend changes are made. *sigh*
Your idea of a special shipping option for those persons who must pay via PayPal is a good work-around for the shipping/handling issue - thanks again.

Our 'Pro' version will have the option to for offline payments. More information will be posted on that as we get closer to that release.

Hi, Scott
Thanks for the 'heads up' on the PRO version... however, I'm struggling with trying to get my home/farm life sold off in the here-and-now :-)) I think SCC is a *great* product -- tu-thumbs up!
Can I bribe you with a batch of home-made chocolate chip cookies if you would tell me in which file/process SCC calls the PayPal processing link -- perhaps I can modify the PayPal processing code myself to send the info to my e-mail address instead of to PayPal (and will create a new button image to replace the PayPal one, so folks aren't confused, thinking they're paying via PayPal) -- that way I can send buyers a PayPal invoice only if necessary, but won't have to keep un-doing the accidental PayPal payments for now -- as people are simply wanting to send me their orders to reserve items until they can come out and pay/pick things up. At least the above would allow me to do a work-around until PRO comes out with offline payments... or until my stuff is all sold ;-)
Or, barring that solution, how can I get rid of ALL payment options but still have the cart create the summary purchase order and update inventory... in that case I'd put a note in the Cart page HTML to tell folks they have to e-mail the summary to me in order to get their items. Kluge yes, but worth a try. As for putting the "mail me your order" info in the HTML in addition to having a PayPal button... nobody seems to want to RTFM ("m" stands for message, in this case) and they press the PayPal button anyway!
Thank you very much!!!
PS: I'm OK with doing script mods, and good about backing up files, so worst case I can put the original files back or simply re-install.

While I would love a dozen oatmeal chocolate chip cookies....
