Help with home page of shopping cart...

I have tried all sorts of ways to try to get around this but can't figure out a way.

So customers go to my shop. On the home page they see a list of categories on the left but the rest of the page is made up of images of items available in the shop. Trouble is when you click on one of those images it only goes to that one item - it doesn't take you to that category. Same problem with "add to cart", it bypasses the options.

Customers are getting very confused - calling me to say 'is there only one of those on your shop?'

I have tried clicking the yellow star to select certain items but again on the home page if you click on that it doesn't go to the category just that one item.

Either I want it to go the category or I would prefer not to have any of the images and just have the list of categories.

I have put on the welcome message to click on the list rather than the images but customers automatically click on images.

Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could try a work around, not elegant, but it may help until the software is changed (if it's changed)

Add a new group, name it something clever, and make this new group your last group. Add an item to the group that is not a product that you sell and have an interesting image. No price and for the description, have a short statement about your shop and instruct the user to use the categories to shop. Now use the star to have this "item" as the ONLY item to show on your shop home page.

When users come to your shop and if they miss your opening message, they only have one "item" to select and that item can be a pretty picture and instructions on how to use your shop. You could also make a text image for the single item that tells the users the same thing.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
